Boots Clear Nail Glue

NOOOOOO!!!  I broke my nail…and it’s in the nail plate, i.e. the pink part of the nail.  Boots Clear Nail Glue to the rescue!!!!!!!!!

Nail glue is an essential beauty product for me.  Whenever I go travelling, I make sure I pack it in with all the rest of my skincare stuff.  It enables me to glue the broken part together and allows my nail to grow out the split.  I know some people don’t care and they cut off the nail at the breakage point.  But you can’t get the pink colour back!  The nail remains pink as it is attached to the nail bed, but once this is removed, it grows out white.

Boots Clear Nail Glue can be purchased here.

Sometimes when I can’t find my nail glue, I resort to lash glue and even, Superglue!!!

How do you deal with a broken nail?

FOTD & Tutorial : Gold & Green

Welcome to The Best Beauty Blog’s first ever FOTD (Face Of The Day)!!  I was inspired and encouraged by beauty bloggers – Jade, Sara-May, coco and Tracy D – to start doing FOTD’s.  Thank you lovelies!

Face of the Day, Gold & Green

This gold and green FOTD is one of my favourite looks because it can be worn as a fresh daytime look.  My complexion looks rather good with this foundation – although I should have used concealer to conceal my dark circles.  I tried to contour my big flat Chinese nose but it doesn’t show up that well in the photos.

Apologies if I look moody in the photos but I realised that if I did my usual “wide eyes and wide teethy smile” pose, you wouldn’t be able to see the colours of my eyeshadows and the pink lippy.  DOH!

A close-up of the “green-eyed” monster!

Make-Up Tutorial

1.  After cleansing and moisturising, apply appropriate primer to face and eyes.

2.  Wait a few minutes and then apply foundation using fingers and a sponge to areas which require it.

Make-up instructions

3.  Set foundation with a light dusting of translucent powder.

4.  Apply gold eyeshadow dust liberally all over eyelids and bring it above the crease.

5.  Apply the green dust eyeshadow to the outer V of the eye and blend lightly.

6. Using the darker green eyeshadow, pop some on the centre of your eyelid and blend.  Also, use this to line the outer third of your lower lashline.

Make-up instructions

7.  Using a black eyeliner, line your upper lashline and extend with a small wing.

Make-up instructions

8.  Stick on false eyelashes.  This can be tricky but the key is to wait for the glue to go slightly tacky before sticking it on.

9.  Step back and look in the mirror and add more colour if necessary to your lids.

10.  Using the same gold eyeshadow dust, pop some on the inner corner of your eye and line the remainder of the inner lower lashline.

11.  Define your eyebrows.  (Please note that I have a black scar on my left eyebrow from a car accident.)

12.  Contour nose and cheekbones with bronzer.

13.  Apply blusher to the apples of your cheeks.

Make-up completed look

14.  Carefully apply pink lipstick.

And we’re done!

FOTD: Completed look

ARDELL Lashes

When I was single, I used my eyes to flirt a lot.  I had the sparkling big eyes lined with the sexy kitten flick and I would flutter my long luscious lashes to capture the attention of my victim.  Okay, that’s not entiiiirely true…  I have short stubby Asian lashes so when I bat and fluttered my lashes, I looked as if I had something in my eye!  LOL.  Anyway, if you have been naturally blessed with short lashes like me, then hakuna matata – don’t worry – because we can always fake it with false eyelashes.  Who do I go to for my faux lashes?  ARDELL lashes.

About ARDELL (taken from their website)

ARDELL has become the world’s leading brand in faux eyelashes because it has stayed true to its mission in wanting to give women a way to have beautiful, unforgettable eyes.

ARDELL offers several lash styles to fit a consumer’s mood, personality and lifestyle. They have become must-have, preferred beauty enhancers for millions of women, including makeup artists and Hollywood A-listers. When women everywhere want to feel confident that their eyes have a total look that’s alluring and the ultimate in beauty, they turn to ARDELL Eyelashes and enjoy the compliments.

ARDELL lash instructions

I was sent 4 sets of ARDELL strip lashes to review on The Best Beauty Blog.

ARDELL Invisibands Demi Pixies Black

ARDELL lashes

Photos of ARDELL lashes

  • These ARDELL lashes were my favourite out of the 4 sets.  They had an invisible band with varying thickness of lashes gradually getting longer at the outer corner of the eye and a sexy flirty curl.
  • Dramatic yet natural at the same time.
  • I felt like a sex kitten wearing them!!  Purrrrr!!!

ARDELL Invisibands Wispies Black

ARDELL lashes

  • These lashes were lusciously long and looked really natural
  • But they somehow made my eyes appear smaller and more almond-shaped

  • If you’re looking for full-on glamour-rama, look no further because these lashes were made for a glamour-puss!!  Miaow!!!
  • Warning : may look a bit drag queen-ish

ARDELL Fashion Lashes 111 Black

ARDELL lashes

Photo of ARDELL lashes

  • These would be my every-day fake lashes.
  • They were of an every-day length – not too long, not too short
  • I’m sure if I wore these every day, people would think they were my real lashes…sigh, if only it were true…
My Opinions On ARDELL Lashes

At first, I was a bit iffy about ARDELL strip lashes as they are made from sterilised 100% human hair.  It just sounded a bit icky, but I soon forgot about that when I realised how natural they looked on my eyes and how ARDELL lashes blended in with my own short stubby ones.

I also liked the fact that the bands on the lashes were not rigid and had some flexibility – which made it easier to apply and very adaptable to different eye shapes.  The lashes are also reusable when removed carefully after use.  However, I wish the lashes came in a clear plastic case for easy storage reasons.

ARDELL lashes do not have lash glue provided.  They recommend LashGrip Eyelash Adhesive.  I was not sent this lash glue for review – but I just used my own lash glue.

The quality of ARDELL lashes are excellent at a very reasonable price.  I definitely recommend them.  There is a wide range of ARDELL lashes for all occasions.  For more information, please check out their website.

Happy Giveaway : CLOSED

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!!!

It’s time for The Best Beauty Blog’s 2nd giveaway – the Happy Giveaway.  I did this giveaway for numerous reasons :-

1.  I promised to do a MUA products giveaway last year but then I didn’t think anyone was reading this blog so I didn’t bother in the end.

2.  I have been really blessed and won a few things recently – Nivea skincare products, an Australis lipgloss and a ticket to a Garnier function – so I wanted to bless someone else.

3.  It’s better to give than to receive.

Anyway, the Happy Giveaway contains 8 items – brand new and unused – all purchased by me.

1.  CoverGirl lipgloss in Sizzle
2.  MUA dark green eyeshadow

Clinique Youth Surge SPF 15 Age Decelerating Moisturizer

As you all may know by now, I basically love all products which contain SPF because it protects against the damaging effects of the sun.  Well, guess what?  I have found an SPF product that I dislike!!!  It is Clinique Youth Surge SPF 15 Age Decelerating Moisturizer.

Clinique, age decelerating moisturizer, youth surge

Product Description

Leveraging Sirtuin technology, Clinique science uses youth-extending agents to create a daily moisturizer with visible effects. Lines and wrinkles seem to evaporate, replaced by plump, vibrant skin alive with collagen and elastin. Skin gains strength over environmental agers. Looks younger, longer.

newbies 061

You may be wondering why I got this Clinique moisturizer if I disliked it.  Well, I was at the Clinique counter in Myer and I told the Clinique lady my main concerns about my skin – dry, sensitive, fine lines and sun-induced freckles.  She highly recommended Clinique Youth Surge so I went with her professional advice.

My Opinions

  • The main reason why I dislike this is because when I put it on, my Husband refuses to kiss me because it smells so badly!  In fact, he has renamed Clinique Youth Surge Age Decelerating Moisturizer as “The Cockroach Cream”!  Don’t have any idea why!  Have you smelt a cockroach before?  Me neither!  Or maybe because it smells so bad that it would repel cockroaches!  LOL!  But yes, there is a strange smell…
  • Secondly, the texture is chalky.  If not rubbed in properly, it forms a chalky lumpy residue.  Not good!
  • My skin didn’t really feel that moisturised after application.
  • Anyway, it took me aaaaaaaages to finish up this jar because I didn’t like it and I HAD to finish it up because Clinique moisturizers are not cheap!
  • The good thing about it is that it contains SPF and Clinique does awesome GWP’s!

Clinique Youth Surge SPF 15 Age Decelerating Moisturizer does not appeal to me nor the Husband.  You have been warned.  Unfortunately, it didn’t do anything for me so I had to give it a rating of 3 out of 10 from The Best Beauty Blog – but then again, we all have different skin types and nostrils so test it out yourself.

China Glaze First Mate

China Glaze is a famous name in the professional nail care industry.  Their unique nail lacquers contain China Clay as a nail hardener – the same material that gives porcelain its shiny finish.  I was delighted when I was sent China Glaze First Mate from their Anchors Away collection to review.

I lost my China Glaze virginity to First Mate!!!!  LOL!!!

China Glaze blue nail polish, China Glaze Australia

China Glaze First Mate is a beautiful royal navy blue colour which looks absolutely amazing with my skin tone!  I only needed one coat to achieve this rich colour and I was genuinely surprised at the extra shiny finish – it must be the China Clay.

China Glaze nail polish, First Mate, royal blue

Even my Husband complimented my shiny nails.  And compliments from him are very rare!  Looked fab paired up with my nautical blue striped handbag!

China Glaze nail polish

China Glaze First Mate was the first China Glaze nail lacquer I have ever tried and I was extremely pleased with it.  Loved the colour and shiny finish.  Loved that I only needed one coat of polish.  Loved the even distribution of colour without blobs.  And love the fact that all China Glaze colours are free of DBP, toluene and formaldehyde.
