Wedding Bells Outfit Of The Day & Make-Up

Last weekend, my friends J and J got married.  Mrs J looked stunning.  I had a fantastic time and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had used our personalised wedding vows for their vows!  Word for word!!  I had tissues ready but I didn’t cry.  And the reception food was good and I got tipsy after drinking a glass of white wine!

Prior to the wedding, Mrs J had asked me for some beauty advice and my best tip was to get flawless skin – which is not an easy feat!!  For my wedding, I prepped my skin 7 days before the wedding with Babor Express Relief Fluid – and my skin was glowing.  I also recommended Bioeffect EGF Serum and Alpha-H products leading up to the wedding…  Turns out Mrs J’s skin broke out from using Bioeffect…and she ordered a stack of Alpha-H but never got round to using it – but Babor saved the day!!  (I felt awful that Mrs J’s skin broke out from using Bioeffect…but my skin loves it!  I started using it again 4 days before the wedding on Saturday and sure enough, my skin plumped out and had that lovely glow…and in fact, I’m still using it this week because I can’t get enough of it.)

OOTD : Outfit Of The Day

My Husband and I had a last minute panic attack on Friday night.  Both of us have put on a lot of weight since getting married last year so he couldn’t fit into his suit and threatened to wear jeans!  But in the end, he found a semi-formal pair of trousers (or pants, like the Aussies call them) and a shirt.  I thought he looked like a bus driver!

For my outfit, I wore a red one-shouldered dress from Review.  I bought it last year when I was much skinnier…thank God I managed to squeeze into it.  I had to suck my belly in the whole day!!!  And I wore my nude patent peeptoes from Tony Bianco.

FOTD : Face Of The Day

For my hair and make-up, I used a LOT of products :

Washed with muk products* the night before.  Created volume with VS Sassoon Big Hair Root Boost* and straightened with ghd’s and smoothed tips with Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil*.

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion Greed* – Primes oily eyelids and adds that extra shimmer under eyeshadows
  • FACE OF AUSTRALIA Colour Max Eyeshadow Palette Gold Mine* – Used matte brown shade for brows.
  • Mirenesse Pearl Crush Creaseless Shadows in Conch Pearls* – A subtle gunmetal grey smokey eye
  • Kiss Me Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner – My first time using this and I was so disappointed because the 0.1mm tip is too fine and hard to control!  But I will learn to master it!
  • Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara* – Rose-scented mascara which lengthens.  Love! (Full review)
  • Note : I forgot to conceal my dark circles under eyes!  FAIL!

  • Elizabeth Arden Advanced Lip-Fix Cream – Been using this as a lip primer…but undecided about how I feel about it.  I purchased it at a fab price and free shipping from here but it took 4 weeks to deliver though…)
  • Savvy by DB Lip Liner Poppy – I ALWAYS line my lips and shade it in if I wear red lippy.  ALWAYS!
  • CoverGirl TruShine Lipstick in 500 Cranberry – One of my favourite reds…but it’s discontinued!!  WHY?!!
  • Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss in Eric* – LOVE!  (Full review and swatch)

(Products marked with * were not purchased by me.  I either got sent it for editorial consideration or I got it in a goody bag.)

This blog post is dedicated to the newlyweds and I wish them a loving life-long marriage full of joy, laughter, love and babies!

What did you wear to the last wedding you attended?

Getting Cuddly With The Seruderm Bear

My first boyfriend was a Welsh Chinese guy and he was one year younger than me and back in those days, amongst my girl-friends, it was like, “Oh MY GASH!!  He’s younger than you!!  EWWW!!!”  After that short-lived relationship, I dated an older guy followed by an even older guy…and afterwards, at the tender age of 21, I decided that I would never date oldies – not even one day older than me!  And to attract younger guys, I knew I had to be skin-savvy to preserve my youthful looks and that, my dear friends, is how I started my life-long friendship with serums, which are usually packed full of nutritious goodness to enhance moisturiser.

So, I want you to imagine you are me for a second, and you receive an email which goes something like this :-

Dear Ling, would you like to try our product – Seruderm, an anti-ageing beauty serum with proven anti-wrinkle action – and consider it for review on your blog?

What would your answer be?  YES!  Exactly!  Correct!  Thank you!  Congratulations, you are one step closer to becoming Ling!  And then, if you are me, you will squeal with delight when you open the package because of the cute cuddly Seruderm bear!!  And then, you will neglect the product itself, but cuddle the bear every night to sleep…

Distractions aside, I did get round to trialling Seruderm and finally, after the long introduction, here is my review…

My Experience With Seruderm

10 out of 10 for the super awesome packaging.  Seruderm is encased in a sleek, shiny, silver container with a head which twists and then locks, to reveal the pump.  It means that there’s no need for a cap, which I usually forget to put back on anyway.  It was so cool that I showed my Husband and he said, “Cool!” too.

I loved everything about this twist-lock-pump mechanism for a serum…until this morning!  I pressed the pump and nothing came out.  Surely, I couldn’t have finished the serum already after 2.5 weeks of usage…so I pressed again…still nada.  And then I picked it up, peered into the nozzle and pressed the pump again – only to have serum shooting out at high speed and splat into my right eye!!!  Instead of behaving like a normal person and trying to wash it out immediately, I tried to open my eye to see if I could see the serum in my eyeball…yeah, don’t ask!  It stung.  I won’t lie.  It stung real bad!  So you would think I would wash it out…but no!  I picked up the bottle and tried to read the instructions with my left eye.

“Avoid contact with eyes.  If contact with eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with water…”

Oh, I see (pun intended)!!!  And only then, I washed my eye.  My poor right eyeball didn’t talk to me for a couple of hours!!

Anyway, apart from that minor mishap, Seruderm definitely integrated well into my skincare regime.  It’s a clear, scentless serum which absorbs very well and leaves no traces after 1-2 minutes.  My skin feels more hydrated, but at the same time, I have still been getting flaky skin around my nose and forehead – but maybe that’s due to the weird weather changes in Melbourne.  It’s possibly too soon to comment on the effect it has on my fine lines.  I have been massaging the serum specifically onto my nasolabial lines.

Overall, my skin has been happy with Seruderm as it is gentle and nourishing with no breakouts.  I’m going to use it for a couple more weeks and if I notice any improvements in fine lines, I will let you all know.  As for the Seruderm bear – I LOVE IT!!!!

It’s Midnight In NY

I’ve been MIA for the last couple of days…and I actually did “normal” social stuff without blogging…and it felt kinda good and liberating!!!  Eeeks, is it bad to say that??  Is this the beginning of the end of beauty blogging for me??  I don’t think so, but don’t quote me on that!  But while I ponder about my future in beauty blogging, say hello to my Monday mani…

I haven’t been to New York before, but if it is as beautiful as Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Midnight In NY, then get me on the next plane there!  The lacquer is black and speckled with micro-glitter to reflect the dark sky filled with sparkly stars.

I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll mention it again – I love Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure brushes because they are shaped perfectly for my nails.  And that’s why I knew I had to buy Midnight In NY when I saw it in the bargain bins at a chemist.

What are you wearing on your nails today?

P.S.  In real-time blogging… An electrician just knocked at the door because he is here to complete installation of air con!  YES!  We’re going to have A/C in time for the blazing Summer.  Thank God my Landlady isn’t here.  She ALWAYS comes over randomly…and today the house is a BOMBSITE!!  We have been basically being doing sweet F all this weekend, in terms of housework.  My Husband started tidying up yesterday, but I managed to stop him and distract him from the mess.  I like living in a mess.  It won’t be a mess very soon because…  *dramatic music*  My in-laws are arriving next week!!!  *GULPS*  And The Worst Daughter-In-Law Award goes to yours truly!!!  I am rambling…apologies…will try and get back on form and blog properly tomorrow!  See y’all!

Hair Products I Have Been Using Lately

It’s Hair Week on The Best Beauty Blog and today I’m going to tell you about the hair products I have been using lately.  But before I do that, let me tell you a bit about my hair…  I like to put my hair through chemical hell as I had my hair permanently straightened in January and I had it coloured with red tips a few months ago.  I wash and blowdry my hair every night and it’s a habit I cannot break.  I thought my hair would be completely damaged but surprisingly, the hairstylist I saw recently and mentioned yesterday, said I had strong and healthy hair and it’s probably because I am using some awesome hair products.  Allow me to introduce you to them…

1.  Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Collection

The collection comprises of Shampoo, Conditioner, Renewing Treatment and Penetrating Oil, which features fair trade argan oil, which nourishes and strengthens hair and it smells FAB!  The Shampoo and Conditioner are free of sulfates, phosphates and parabens – which was great at not stripping the red from my hair and moisturised well except the hair ends which had its tangled moments.  But the ends fared better when I used the Renewing Treatment as a weekly treat for my hair.  For me, the star product of the collection has to be the Penetrating Oil – it is weightless and my hair soaks it up like a sponge.  My hair feels so much softer and looks shinier when I use this.  There is silicone in the ingredients list so I don’t use it every day but maybe 2-3 times a week.

2.  Schwarzkopf Extra Care Nutri Protect Collection

Schwarzkopf is a well-known hair brand which is known for its affordable products.  The Extra Care Nutri Protect collection here features Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave-In Conditioner and is packaged in pink – my favourite colour!  This range targets dry, stressed hair with its liquid keratin formula – which is perfect for me, my hair and I!  Smells good, washes well and detangles.  The Leave-In Conditioner tends to be neglected though as my hair is happy with simply using the Conditioner – but I foresee that I will be using it a lot more often when Summer comes.  I’ll just spritz some on my hair and chill out in the sun!

3.  muk intense muk Repair Collection

If you fancy treating your locks to extra TLC, then I would highly recommend muk.  It’s my first time trying out muk products, and I am mightily impressed with how my hair feels every time I use their Shampoo and Conditioner.  I save the Repair Treatment as a bi-monthly treat where I coat my hair with it and wrap it up in a towel and let it work wonders.  My hair looks like I’ve just stepped out of a salon!!!

4.  Pantene Aqua Light

It’s lightweight and makes hair go SWISSHY!!!  Find out more tomorrow…  *cue mystery music*

My Blowdry Experience At Salon M

hairdresser South Yarra, hair salon blowdry

Salon M
409 Malvern Road
South Yarra
VIC 3141

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Salon M and asked if I would like a blowdry.  I thought about for 2 seconds before I said, “Yes, please!”  An appointment was booked and here is what happened :-

  • I was 2 minutes late and I arrived at Salon M all sweaty.  The walk from the train station was around 7-10 minutes…but in typical Ling fashion, I took a wrong turn.  I was greeted by friendly staff members and my stylist for the day was the beautiful Jenn.  I knew I would like her straight away because she was rocking a bright orange lipstick and I couldn’t stop admiring it – this was quite apt as I had bought the domain – – on that very morning.
  •  After a quick friendly chat / consultation, I was led to get my hair washed.  I can report that the temperature of the water was perfect and no water in the ears.  YAY!  We continued chatting as she washed my hair.  For some bizarre reason, my mind went blank when she asked me what hair products I use.  It’s probably due to the fact that I use a variety of different hair potions and lotions to tame my mane.  Anyway, she said she was only asking because my hair was healthy and strong even though I’ve had it coloured and I wash and dry it every night and use hair appliances all the time.  (BTW – tomorrow’s post will be about the hair products I’ve been using lately.)
  • After towel-drying my hair and applying heat protectant spray, my hair was blowdried (with no scalp burning) and put into huge rollers.  I’ve never had that done before so it was really fun!  Pity it looks really complicated and I don’t think it’s something I can do on myself.
  •  When the big rollers were removed, I could only think of one word – VOLUME!  To finish off the look, Jenn curled the ends of my hair with ghd straighteners and spritzed on hairspray.  I had big bouncy curls and I felt like one of the girls in a hair commercial!

I had a great time at Salon M with friendly staff and a fabulous blowdry experience.  If you live in Melbourne and want to check them out yourself, here’s their website.

Garnier Fresh Essentials Eye Make-Up Remover

I found this post I wrote when I first started beauty blogging a year ago but it got put into the Drafts folder and never got published…till today… *smiles*  Back then, I was trying to follow a rigid formula to write product reviews and it was boring!  Nowadays, I just write whatever pops into my mind…and it’s probably still boring, but at least, I have a unique voice!  Anyway, here it is, in its unedited glory…with very small pics…!!

Removing all your eye make-up before going to sleep is vital so that your skin can breathe and regenerate.  My ideal eye make-up remover is affordable, gentle to my eyes and the delicate eye area and extremely simple and effective to use.  After using up my previous eye make-up remover, Simple Kind To Eyes, I went and bought a new one to try out – Garnier Fresh Essentials Eye Make-Up Remover.

Product Testing

Drew an eye with eyeliner, painted on eyeshadow and put on some smudged mascara.  Soaked a cotton pad with Garnier Fresh Essentials Eye Make-Up Remover and placed it on the area for a few seconds.  Required two wipes to remove all make-up.

My Opinions

  • Likes : relatively quick and easy to use, affordable, doesn’t sting eyes
  • Dislikes : contains fragrance

Garnier Fresh Essentials Eye Make-Up Remover gets a 7 out of 10 for me…but I am still on the hunt for my ideal eye make-up remover.  Any suggestions?
