5 Reasons Why I Love Bold Red Lipsticks

I love bold red lipsticks because :-

1.  It makes me feel super-sexy.

2.  My teeth look extra white with blue-based red lippies.

3.  It can distract and hide a multitude of sins (I am referring to my eyebags btw!)

4.  I get more compliments from wearing red lipsticks than any other shades I own.

5.  I can match the colour of my lips to my clothes, handbag, nail polish and shoes (which I did last week!!) – and not care what people think because I am deluded into thinking that I am super-sexy!  (refer to point 1.)

“Look, it’s that crazy lady in red from head to toe again!”  LOL!

To see which Sisley red lipstick I am wearing in the photos, head to my lipstick beauty blog Lip Stalker.

Do you love red lipsticks?  Tell me why!

It’s All About MeMeMe Dew Pots

If you are sick of waiting around for the Maybelline Color Tattoos (yes, non-Aussie readers, we know you got the range yonks ago but we are still waiting here in Australia!), allow me to point you in the direction of MeMeMe Dew Pots.

MeMeMe Dew Pots swatches, MeMeMe cream eyeshadows, MeMeMe cosmetics review, MeMeMe Australia

MeMeMe Dew Pots are described as “high performance, ultra long-stay, rich colour eye defining creams” and well…let’s just say that you won’t need much convincing from me that these little pots (3ml) of colourful goodness – which can be used as eyeshadows itself or as a base or even as eyeliner – are absolutely fabulous.  Yes, absolutely fabulous dah-lings!!!

MeMeMe Dew Pots, MeMeMe swatches

There are 8 shades in the MeMeMe Dew Pot collection with the most seductive names – e.g. Autumn Smoulder (berry) and Willow Whisper (taupe) – and I received Tangled Ivy and Hollow Haze.

Tangled Ivy is a piercing dark emerald shade.  If you recall my green nails from Monday’s post, it is definitely the season to reignite my love for deep dark green colours.

Sadly, for Hollow Haze, a silvery light beige, it pales in comparison to Tangled Ivy.  But don’t underestimate it because this is the perfect shade for highlighting the inner corners of the eyes to make them look brighter and more awake.

The MeMeMe Dew Pots are cream eyeshadows which means that they blend beautifully and glide on easily…BUT…there’s always a “but”!…but beware if you have oily lids like me.  Yes, oily lids!  If my eyelids were any bigger, I would be able to fry bacon and eggs on them!!!

Anyway, here’s my top tip for MeMeMe Dew Pots on oily lids : I apply eyeshadow primer before application AND I also need to set it with a similar-shaded eyeshadow powder to avoid looking like a smeared greasy-eyed panda at the end of the evening.

MeMeMe Dew Pots

Okay…okay…that’s not the most original make-up tip and you probably knew that already.  But did you know that MeMeMe currently have 30% off the MeMeMe Dew Pots taking the price from $19.95AUD down to $13.97AUD?  Bargain!  Thank me first and then, head along to their website and shop away.

Instead of ending with my usual questions (which nobody REALLY answers) to ask you what you thought, leave me a comment, blah blah blah, I’ll end it with some rhyming poetry.  Just because I can. 😛

Beauty Bites Featuring Play The Brow Bar, MISS FOX & Blogger Meet-Ups

I promised yesterday that I wouldn’t have Tuesday-itis today so I’m updating with another Beauty Bites post.  If you recall, Beauty Bites is a new series on the blog which contains short and sweet morsels of the beauty bubble I live in.

threaded brows

play. the brow bar :  I was invited to get my eyebrows tinted and threaded at this new-ish brow bar in South Yarra, just round the corner from the Thai massage place where the lady fondled my boobs (read the full story here)!  Anyway, it was really good to get my brows threaded again (I used them get them done fortnightly in Scotland) as I adore the clean finish it gives.  Don’t my brows look fantastic in the After pic?

MISS FOX 1st Birthday Party :  Norlin from Baubles, Bubbles & Bags kindly invited me as her plus one to a party at MISS FOX, this super glam salon in Melbourne city.  It was a school night but I happily downed some yummy cocktails (I love Pimms) and ate a Phat Brat (a fat sausage in a plump roll) as elegantly as I could.  I had NOTHING to wear so I threw on the blue ASOS dress I bought recently.  In the bottom right photo (credit to TheTrendSpotter.net), my foundation looks GHASTLY!   Note to self : Never test a new foundation at a party function!

Snail Mail From My BFF :  It’s been nearly THREE years since I left Scotland and finally, I got some snail mail from my BFF!  And not just snail mail, but a love package filled with presents galore.  Thanks babe!

Melbourne beauty bloggers, Melbourne bloggers meet-up

Melbourne Bloggers Meet-Ups :  I think there’s an urban legend (which I created right now!) that says that bloggers meet up to sit round in a circle, hold hands and talk about blogging and pray to the blogging gods.  FALSE FALSE FALSE!  We meet up to eat, chat, giggle and eat, chat, giggle!

The girls in the first photo are all 10+ years younger than me!  DAMN MY OLD AGE!  But they are all so adorable and cute…and I relive my youth through them.  This was our 2nd meet-up and we feasted on Korean BBQ – so so so yummy!  From left to right is Alice (http://www.followafteralice.blogspot.com.au), Khatsii (www.khatsii.com), Julie (www.julies-little-world.com) and Kimu (http://www.xxshinrai.blogspot.com.au).

And in the second photo are some lovely ladies around my age.  I did a tweet-out to see if any Melbourne (beauty or non-beauty) bloggers wanted to meet up and FIVE tweeps responded – YAY!  And due to some unforeseen circumstances, three couldn’t make it (I am sure we will have another meet-up) but I had the pleasure of meeting Ling – AWESOME NAME BTW! – (http://www.porkchopsnest.blogspot.com.au) and Vita (http://www.makeup4myage.blogspot.com.au) – and we got on like a house on fire.  Or at least, I thought so 😛

Australian BlogStar Best Beauty Vlog Award :  WOW!  Such an honour to win Best Beauty Vlog award for my alter ego, Lip Stalker.  Thanks for all those who voted for me.  And now, I have to make 12 videos…uh-oh!!!  Any ideas on what you would like to watch?

Anyway, this week is a crazy busy week so I hope I can keep posting regular updates.  If not, don’t forget you can catch me over on Twitter and Instagram – @xyling.  And if you’re a Melbourne blogger or a blog reader out there who wants to meet up, give me a holler on email.  No murderers nor stalkers need apply.  😛

Priti NYC Polish swatches, Priti NYC Polish, dark green nail polish

Monday-itis!  Monday-itis!  Monday…oh hai there!  Mucho apologies for this quick filler post but I have had a crazy weekend full of ups and downs.  I’ll fill you in all the goss later…maybe…but meanwhile, feast your eyes upon some pretty nail polish from Priti NYC Polish.  My puns are absolutely amazing, aren’t they?!

Grammar Police Alert :  The last sentence isn’t even a proper sentence!

Ignore my nonsensical non-grammatical words and just enjoy the pictures of the beautifully glossy nails with a dark green shade perfect for the Winter season we are experiencing in Melbourne.  And how totally awesome is the shade name – Dark Warrior Orchid.

Please note that these nail polishes are press samples.

I promise not to have Tuesday-itis tomorrow.  Let me know what you think of this dark green glossy shade.

Get Or Forget : Daiso Charcoal Mask

Daiso mask, Daiso blackhead mask, charcoal mask

If you haven’t heard about charcoal masks, you are either :-

a)  A beauty noob!  In that case, I would advise you to subscribe to my beauty blog right now!  *shameless plug alert*

or

b)  A very very lucky girl with flawless skin with no blackheads and no pores!  I hate you!  Nah, just joking…I envy you!!!

Anyway, charcoal masks contain charcoal (duh!) which help draw out impurities from skin and unclog pores.  Sounds awesome, right?  Well, I have been trying out a couple of charcoal masks and here’s my review of the Daiso Charcoal Mask in the Get or Forget format.

Get Daiso Charcoal Mask if :-

  • You have a local Daiso store (I do!  And my mask only cost me AU$2.80 :P)
  • You have enlarged pores
  • You have blackheads
  • Your boyfriend / husband has enlarged pores and blackheads (it’s fun to do the mask on them too!)

Forget Daiso Charcoal Mask if :-

  • You don’t have a local Daiso store (I am sorry!)
  • You are a skincare snob and using a cheapie skincare product gives you the heebie-jeebies!  Go and spend your money on expensive shizz instead 😛

daiso mask, Daiso blackhead mask, charcoal mask

Daiso Charcoal Mask is really easy to use but it is ultra-messy because black goop can get everywhere and it is impossible to remove…until it is dry which depends on how thick you apply the mask.  Peeling the dried mask from my nose was so satisfying…and it was even more satisfying to see all the gunk and blackheads it removed from my nose.  YES!  I bet it would be great for those with ‘bacne’ (= back acne) too.

Have you tried charcoal masks before?  And how awesome is Daiso, huh?

Last Week’s Shopping Haul

Oh no!  I think I am turning into a shopaholic AGAIN!  I used to shop ALL the time back in my twenties because I worked full-time and earned good money…and then I went travelling, got poor and stopped spending frivolously…and now that I’m working again, I’m back on the shopaholic wagon.  Shame on me!!!

Last week’s shopping haul isn’t that exciting but I know some readers love to see what I purchased so here it is…  Alternatively, if hauls aren’t your thang, feel free to click away…

Beauty Products

  • FACE OF AUSTRALIA Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons ($15 at Big W) : I have been dying to get these as I have heard that they are better than Clinique Chubby Sticks.  Will be swatching them on Lip Stalker so go and subscribe to my other beauty blog if you haven’t already.
  • Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Lavender Set ($20 at Myer) : I love the original version but this is pretty good too.  I think I just love anything green tea!
  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer ($8 at Priceline) : I’m still not feeling my new Shu Uemura concealer so I’ve been looking for a new concealer.  Will review in due time.
  • Fing’rs Brush-On Nail Glue ($8 at Priceline) :  My nail broke whilst I was shopping so I ran to my nearest Priceline to glue it back together.

Shoes

  • Rubi Shoes were having a big sale and I found these ankle boots – grey and black – and nude patent heels (which I wore for my OOTD) for $15 each pair.  Cheap and cheerful.

Clothes

  • I have been looking for work-friendly clothes so I found these cheapies – purple top ($3 at Coles), red sweater ($20 at Target) and another 2 tops not pictured because they weren’t very exciting either.
Entertainment
  • Britney Spears Femme Fatale Tour DVD ($10 at JB Hi-Fi) :  Hey, don’t judge me but I wanted to be Britney when I was younger!  In fact, this is on in the background as I write this post…  But anyway, she’s not what she used to be and she mimes the whole way through this concert and there’s way too much autotuning…  Nevertheless, it’s something for me to watch as I use the cross-trainer that I have newly acquired thanks to one of my gfs.  Look out for a newer and fitter me 😛
  • Kelly Clarkson Stronger album ($10 at JB Hi-Fi) :  Who buys CDs these days??!  Me!  I also buy music off iTunes.
Random
  • Last week’s random and spontaneous purchase is this framed picture of a caricature of a geisha / Japanese girl.  I love it because it is cute and somehow reminds me of my sisters and I when we were younger – all of us had this haircut courtesy of my mother!!  LOLOL!

Anyway, I have decided that this is my last shopping spree for a while and I am going on a spending ban for 4 weeks from time of writing.  Let’s see if I will last…  What have you recently purchased?

EDIT :  My spending ban did NOT last long.  I lasted like 2 days and then I went and bought earrings, handbag and shoes…  *oopsie*

1 + 1 = 2

I don’t know about you but I like to get to know the blogger behind all the blogs I read…so today, instead of writing another beauty post, I’m here with a personal-ish random-ish post…

Two years ago, I was throwing a Bridezilla tanty because my freakin’ false eyelash wouldn’t stick on my lash line as I had been crying too much after Skype-ing my parents who live in Scotland.  I was freaking out because I was GETTING MARRIED!!!

(Note to self : For my next wedding, forget DIY wedding make-up and hire a professional wedding make-up artist!  I kid, I kid!!!)

Anyway, lash incident aside, I married my best friend.  The best friend who I met in Manly in Sydney whilst I was on a Working Holiday visa…and 180 days later after our initial meeting, we got hitched!

And then 2 months after that, we got married again in Scotland.  And we really consider the August wedding date to be the real wedding date because that is when we “officially sealed the deal” if you know what I mean 😛

So today is our 2nd year anniversary of being “legally married”…and hurrah, we will celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary in 2 months time.  Yay!!!

Ahhh, I just feel really blessed to marry an amazing guy who is an absolute rock!

*insert a long list of mushy wushy lovely dovey words which will make people sick*

And normal beauty blogging will resume tomorrow…
