Beauty Bites featuring Lelo, Dior, Cadbury’s, Shiseido, etc

Here comes another Beauty Bites post with extracts of my life as a beauty blogger ūüôā

Oh My Lelo!¬†:¬†¬† The funniest true story happened to me last week.¬† A PR sent me a (personalised and very legitimate) email to ask if they could send me their latest back massager and well, I have chronic back pain so why not?¬† It arrived and it looked like a phallic shaped back massager.¬† Anyway, I tweeted out¬†this picture and even uploaded this onto my personal FB account to show off my new gadget.¬† I was getting messages saying “It’s a vibrator, Ling!” and I was like, “Don’t be stupid!¬† It’s a back massager!”¬† So I charged it up and pressed the ON button and OH MY WORD…it vibrated like a…well…vibrator!¬† So I jumped onto Google and¬†it¬†turns out that¬†this Lelo is :¬†“as well as a back massager, it is a powerful external vibrator”¬† FML!!¬† I have never been so mortified and scrambled to delete the pictures but it was too late as a lot of people had seen it already.¬† All my colleagues messaged me and said that they had a sore back and asked if I could bring in my Lelo.¬† I did.¬† We all had a great time…laughing!!!¬† The happiest person ever was my Husband who insists that we should test out the FULL functions of the Lelo!

Going Blue :¬† Moving swifly along… I’ve been loving the colour blue lately.¬† Blue dress, blue beads, blue Dior box and blue wrapper of¬†yummy Cadbury’s chocolate.

Shattered Shiseido :¬† I curse thee¬†whoever it was who shattered this beautiful Shiseido eyeshadow palette by the time it got delivered to me. ¬†I won’t be getting another one – le sigh – so I am going to attempt some DIY Ling Will Fix It.¬† Watch this space to see if I will succeed.¬† Meanwhile, if you have any tips, let me know and you will be blessed with forever flawless skin because I said so! ūüėõ

My Birthday Treats :  As you may remember, it was my birthday recently and I have been getting lots of lovely treats from a variety of people in my awesome life.  Super sweet!  Thanks peeps <3

And that’s a wrap!¬† What’s been biting you in your world lately?

Asian Beauty : Review of Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation

za cosmetics foundation

Za Cosmetics is a popular drugstore brand in Asia. ¬†When I was in Hong Kong earlier this year, I bought Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation in shade 22. ¬†And yes, the hot metallic pink case was indeed the deal breaker. ¬†I am running out of my Holy Grail Shu Uemura foundation (surprisingly, I haven’t blogged about it before so I must get a review up before it runs out) so instead of repurchasing it like a normal person would do, I have been cracking open all the foundations I have hoarded in my collection to see if they are any good. ¬†Yes, dear readers, expect more foundation reviews in the near future as I am officially on a Foundation Frenzy!!!

What Is Two-Way Foundation?

First up, let me tell you all what two-way foundation is. ¬†Don’t worry, I had to google the meaning too! ¬†ūüėõ

I used to think that two-way foundation means that it is foundation and powder in one.  But it actually means that you can apply this foundation powder compact with a dry or wet application, i.e. 2 ways.

Dry gives a heavier coverage and matte finish; whereas wet gives a lighter coverage as the foundation is thinned down and gives a touch of radiance.  It depends on your skin type and what type of finish you like with your foundation.

Now that I’ve got that out the way, let me show you how I look with dry and wet applications with¬†Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation¬†and tell you which one I prefer…

Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation : Dry Application

Coverage is truly amazing because with a few swipes of the dry sponge, my freckled-face was concealed and I looked like a younger non-freckled version of me. ¬†I was well pleased until I had a closer look and realised that it was TOO HEAVY to the point where it looked cakey. ¬†Also, once the foundation settled, my pores were highlighted…to the point where I looked like I had big holes in my face and it almost triggered the tryptophobia inside me. ¬†(Read more about my tryptophobic beauty finds here)

In conclusion, the dry application of Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation is definitely not for dry-skinned ladies like me.

Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation : Wet Application

Za Cosmetics foundation review

Now for the wet application, you can make the sponge wet and dab on the foundation.  But we all know wet sponges attract bacteria like an Australian beauty blogger to the nearest Priceline so instead, I came up with my own genius way of wet application.

First, I applied the foundation with a dry sponge and then I went crazy with my Uriage Thermal Water and sprayed it all over my face.  Using my fingertips, I gently massaged the ultra-hydrating water in with the foundation all over.  This results in a lovely and light medium coverage, concealing freckles and pores.  And there was no cakiness.  Woop woop!

Dry vs Wet

Two-way foundation, dry & wet foundation

Well, it’s a no-brainer. ¬†I like it wet! ¬†(Ooh, that sounds a tad dirty :P)

What’s it called again?  Za Cosmetics True White Plus Two-Way Foundation (what a mouthful!)
Where can I buy this?¬† In Asia…oh wait…that’s a tad controversial according to a reader’s comment from my last Asian Beauty post {read here} so I can definitely say Hong Kong because that’s where I bought mine! ¬†I think Za Cosmetics is made in Taiwan and their products can be purchased in Malaysia and Singapore too. ¬†Please correct me if I am wrong!
What’s the damage?  RRP : $115 HKD

Wink like a Minx with Katy Perry Lashes created by Eylure

Recently, I told you all that I wanted to achieve 3 things in August and one of my aims was to learn to wink like a minx.  Dear ladies, I am proud to say that I am on the brink of achieving this goal thanks to Katy Perry.

Source : KatyPerryForum.com

No, no, no! ¬†Even though I have a girl crush on her, this isn’t the type of wink I aspire to… Sorry Katy! ūüėõ

Instead I am loving the Katy Perry Lashes created by Eylure!  These falsies are wonderful in assisting my desire to wink like a minx!  Thank you Eylure for sending me these delights!

There are currently 4 sets in the Katy Perry Lashes collection :-

Katy Perry false eyelashes, Katy Perry and Eylure

Cool Kitty :  Thick, voluminous lashes perfect for a night out paired with a sexy smokey eye.
Sweetie Pie :  Subtle everyday lashes suitable for the unfortunate girl blessed with short stubby lashes, i.e. ME!
Oh, Honey! :  Subtle with the extra curl, which would be ideal for a first date, perhaps?
Oh, My! :  Full-on glamour, almost drag queen-esque!

The lashes are great quality and the band flex beautifully to fit around my wonky Asian eyes.

Katy Perry false eyelashes Each set comes with a small vial of eyelash glue which held up the lashes pretty well. ¬†(I trialled it for a solid 6 hours wearing the Oh My! lashes and it didn’t drop at all!) ¬†Perfect size to pop in your handbag if you’re wearing falsies outside the house (unlike good old guinea pig me who sat around the house with them on!)

Some girls find it difficult to apply lashes and I used to be the same until I learned {the secret} and it’s almost a breeze for me now. ¬†BUT…there’s always a but! ¬†How on earth do girls recycle falsies???!!! ¬†I have NEVER been able to get the gunky glue off the band EVER and I usually wear them once and chuck them out. ¬†If anyone knows what to do, please kindly share!!!

Anyway, wanna see how the lashes looked on me?  My eye did some cam-whoring whilst I trialled Cool Kitty and Oh My!
(psst Рin the photo on the top with my enlarged eye, you can see my brand spanking new Canon DSLR!!  You like? :P)

Katy Perry Eyelure lashes

You must agree that I “look” like I can wink like a minx right? ¬†Now I just need to practise winking!!!

Revlon Inspires The Best Beauty Blog Nail Enamel Trio Set – perhaps coming soon to a store near you?

Revlon Inspires

It’s not every day that I…well, not me exactly, but my blog – The Best Beauty Blog verified by no-one¬†gets a 1 in 5 chance to have a¬†limited edition Revlon Nail Enamel trio set produced and sold at a leading¬†Revlon¬†stockist, so when I got asked to see if I would participate in the Revlon Inspires campaign, I said, “Yes please!”¬†even though I get no profits nor monetary compensation whatsoever at any stage of this campaign.

I received 12 Revlon nail polishes and I was asked to select 3 of my favourites to go into what could possibly be –¬†Revlon Inspires The Best Beauty Blog Nail Enamel Trio Set. ¬†How amazing would that be, huh? ¬†It was quite a difficult process because all the nail polishes were screaming “Pick me!” but eventually, I did it. ¬†Without further ado, let me reveal the 3 shades I chose…

Revlon Inspires The Best Beauty Blog Nail Enamel Trio Set consists of :-

  • 640 Fearless
  • 560 Zealous
  • 571 Posh

As you can they are big bold colours perfect for the forthcoming Spring / Summer seasons. ¬†Let’s take a closer look at these gorgeous shades in all its glory.

Revlon Fearless

#revloninspires, Revlon Fearless 640

Fearless is a vibrant warm coral red creme which is suitable for all skin tones.

Revlon Zealous

Revlon Inspires, Revlon Zealous 560, Revlon nail swatches

Zealous is a lemony shade with hints of lime and a very subtle gold microshimmer.  Note : Applies sheer so needs a good 3 coats.

Revlon Posh

Revlon Posh swatch, Revlon Inspires, Revlon nail swatches, green creme nails

Posh is a vivid green creme which screams sophistication.  It appealed to me lots because I have nothing remotely close to this colour in my vast nail polish collection.

Funnily enough, the names of them are NOTHING like me!  I am not Fearless because I am scared of EVERYTHING from all types of animals to swimming pools!  A sack of potatoes is more Zealous than me!  As for Posh, pfft, are you kidding me?  I come from Glasgow, the city with the highest murder rate in Europe!

But hey, I can fake it till I make it by wearing these nail polishes, right?

Let me know how the shades I have chosen inspire you.  What does it remind you of?  Food?  Coloured jeans?  Angry Birds?

If you made it here, thanks for reading!  Did you like the colours I chose?  Every time I see a traffic light, it reminds me of these nail polishes!!  LOL.

Get or Forget : Kirkland Signature 10 Piece Deluxe Brush Collection with Designer Bag

Costco Kirkland Signature makeup brushes

Costco. ¬†If you haven’t been to Costco before, you are surely missing out. ¬†Costco opened up in my hometown of Glasgow yonks ago and it was and still is, one of my Mum’s favourite places to shop. ¬†And guess what? ¬†I am turning into my Mum because it is also one of my favourite places to shop now that Costco has opened up in Melbourne. ¬†I love Costco’s freshly baked croissants, large packs of salmon, Skippy Peanut Butter and I really miss the baked potatoes because they don’t sell that here in Melbourne. ¬†Damn them!!!!!! ¬†Anyway, this isn’t a food blog so let me get onto the beauty bit of today’s blog. ¬†During one of our Costco visits, I came upon¬†Kirkland Signature 10 Piece Deluxe Brush Collection with Designer Bag for the bargainous price of $20 AUD and in a flash, it hopped onto my trolley and came home with me.

The 10 brushes are :-

  • Powder : Big and fluffy but not soft enough for my liking
  • Finishing : Good for stippling
  • Foundation Concealer : ¬†LOVE this as it is dense but soft and buffs well
  • Cheek : 2nd favourite and great for contouring
  • Crease Eye : I like to use this on fake crease (I have Asian eyes with no crease – boohoo!)
  • Angled Eye : Not used very often so cannot comment
  • All Over Eye : Great for eye shadow in powder form
  • Liner : I’ve been using this a lot to line my waterline with black matte shadow
  • Highlighting : Haven’t had the need to use this at all
  • Contour Kabuki : Lovely and soft

Here is my review of Kirkland Signature 10 Piece Deluxe Brush Collection with Designer Bag¬†in the Get or Forget format…

Get Kirkland Signature 10 Piece Deluxe Brush Collection with Designer Bag if :-

  • You cannot be bothered washing your make-up brushes (hello, that’s me!)
  • You’re not a make-up brush snob because the handles are plastered with Kirkland Signature logo which is a tad tacky
  • A foundation brush is what you are after. ¬†This is the star in the collection. ¬†Star!!!

Forget Kirkland Signature 10 Piece Deluxe Brush Collection with Designer Bag if :-

  • You have an ultra-sensitive face because some of the brushes are scratchy!!
  • You like tapered handles on make-up brushes. ¬†The handles here aren’t tapered and can make application a tad more difficult.
  • You think you’re getting a “DESIGNER BAG” – it aint designer, I tell ya! ¬†That’s false advertising!!!

My expectations for¬†Kirkland Signature 10 Piece Deluxe Brush Collection with Designer Bag were low and that is why the brushes exceeded my expectations. ¬†For $20 AUD, I am not complaining. ¬†Don’t worry if you don’t have a Costco near you because you can buy it on Amazon

Are you a Costco fan?  Have you tried these make-up brushes?  And do you love Skippy Peanut Butter too?

Sponsored Post : My Westfield Wishlist

Thanks to everyone who sent me well-wishes for yesterday’s surgical procedure. ¬†Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful…and I still have that silly stone stuck in my salivary gland. ¬†I am now recovering in bed and watching mindless TV. ¬†Anyway, today’s post is sponsored by the good people at Westfield. ¬†They asked me¬†to write a post about what 5 products I would buy from their online beauty section. ¬†I spent hours browsing the Westfield website ooh-ing and ahh-ing over everything – not just beauty, but cookware ¬†(I’m turning into my Mum!!) and clothes too. ¬†I finally narrowed down my Westfield Wishlist to 5 beauty items so allow me to share them with you…

1.  Napoleon Perdis Devine Lipstick in Xenia $35 :  You all know I am a Lip Stalker!  Need I say more?

2. ¬†Clarins Colour Breeze Face & Blush Palette $59 : ¬†This is a gorgeous limited edition Clarins palette perfect to add a subtle colour to enhance cheekbones. ¬†What’s not to love?

3.  La Prairie Cellular Radiance Concentrate Pure Gold $742.95 :  This is the most expensive item in the skincare section and my face demands to know why.  Apparently, it plumps fine lines and rapidly fills wrinkles Рsounds like something I need STAT!

4.  Essie Luxeffects Collection $18.95 :  Can you believe I am an Essie nail polish virgin?  What a shocker!  This collection of textured top coats is definitely on my wishlist.

5.  Cloud Nine Wide Iron $270 :  I know I have my trusty ghd but I fancy myself a wide iron to create bigger bouncier waves.

Have you tried any of the products I featured? ¬†What’s on your wishlist? ¬†I can’t wait to get out of bed and go shopping in real life. ¬†I am on a shopping ban but window shopping is just as fun.¬†
