Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

I’m going to start off today’s post with a bit of beauty trivia…

The Number 1 matte foundation in Australia is…*drumroll please*…  And do you know when it was launched?  It was launched in 2005 – 8 years ago!  Wow!

With that in mind, my expectations were pretty high before trialling this foundation so let’s see if it delivered…

(Oh…and there’s a $150 Maybelline prize pack giveaway at the end so do keep reading, ladies *winks*)

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation is housed in a small glass jar with a plastic screw-on lid.  Plain and simple packaging with a weight of 18g, which makes it relatively travel-friendly.

The foundation may appear a bit lumpy, but bear in mind that it is a mousse formulation so it will have bubbly bits.

As it is air whipped, the formula is lovely and light.

Blending is easy.  Using a cotton bud to dip into the jar, I just swipe a small amount onto the back of my hand, warm up the product with my fingertips and blend onto my face where I want coverage in small circular motions.

As I only apply foundation to selected areas of my face, I don’t find it heavy or cakey at all – in fact, I sometimes forget that I am wearing makeup!  A little bit goes a long way with Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation.

The coverage ranges from light to medium and as you can see from my photos, my freckles are less visible and my skin tone is evened out for that natural finish.  Without using a setting powder, the foundation’s mattifying powers lasted a good 4-5 hours before my oily forehead got the better of me – and that was me testing it on a humid day where I was a tad sweaty.

Tip #1 :  If you are prone to dry skin patches like me, it’s best to exfoliate beforehand and apply a base primer.
Tip #2 :  Apply setting powder for a longer-lasting finish.

It exagerates my pores so much but if feels nice I stopped using it as a foundation and now use it as a concealer/base. 🙂

I’m quite oily in the t-zone, too, and I think one of Maybelline’s best prods is their Shine Free Oil-Control Loose Powder. Pretty sure I’ve been using it since the 90’s: glad they’ve kept it in their range.

@rabbitwithfangs, I have heard rave reviews about Maybelline’s loose powder formulations but have yet to try them myself. I always get really upset if one of my favourite beauty products are discontinued. Luckily, that hasn’t happened for a while…but now that I have pointed it out, I bet something bad will happen 😛
