Asians, Alcohol And After Sun
I know there are many factors of being “typically Asian”, but for the sake of this post, I have altered it to suit my requirements. You know you’re a typical Asian if :-
a) You cannot handle alcohol and go bright red and get drunk easily.
b) You avoid the sun because you don’t want to get tanned.
This was all of me a couple of weeks ago…except in my alcoholic state, I welcomed the sun into my life and this kinda happened…
Being a sunny day, there was nothing more refreshing than a nicely chilled Rekordelig cider (they are so damn yummy!!!). I wore my sunnies and sat in the shade, slowly sipping my cider. One can later, I was beaming red and tipsy. Off came my long-sleeved top and I was prancing around in the glaring sun with my bare skin sans sunscreen!! Shock, horror, faint! *THUD*
I preach the importance of sunscreen and there I was, drunk as a punk, basking in the blazing sun in all my sunscreen-free glory. (I did a similar thing once when I was holidaying in Costa Brava and promptly spewed out my pint of beer before I got to the toilet. Pleasant holiday memories…) There was no spewing this time round; but there was tanning of the unwanted kind.
Perfect timing to bring out the Clarins After Sun Moisturizer Ultra-Hydrating I was sent for review a while ago. I never thought I would have the opportunity to use it but here I was, slapping it all over my sunburnt bits.
If you’re looking for a comprehensive review about Clarins After Sun Moisturizer Ultra-Hydrating, you have come to the wrong beauty blog. There’s not much for me to say because :-
a) I have never used an After Sun before so I can’t compare it with others.
b) I used it in my post-alcoholic pre-hangover state. Yes, I get hangovers from one sip of wine!
All I can say is that it’s like a moisturiser and it’s nourishing for the skin. Smells alright and absorbs very well in the presence of sunburnt, dehydated skin.
My skin didn’t peel off and it didn’t hurt…so did I really get sunburnt?? Maybe it was just a tan…? Anyway, because of that, I cannot comment on the soothing factor of this product. And I refuse to burn till my skin peels off for the sake of beauty blog research.
Clarins After Sun Moisturizer Ultra-Hydrating claims to “prolong tans” but that’s the last thing I want!!! Definitely one for the sun junkies!
Lesson learnt : I must only drink alcohol after the sun goes down. Forget treating my skin to After Sun moisturisers, alcohol can be my after sun treat!
Do you use After Sun? I don’t think I have ever met anyone who uses After Sun… Are there After Sun products for your face? Sorry. I am an After Sun noob! But most importantly, what’s your favourite flavour of Rekorderlig?

21/02/2012 at 10:31 am (453 days ago)You are right on the mark – yes, Asians can’t handle alcohol and we tend to run away from the sun. Well I definitely did that since last year. Sun = wrinkles! Argh! I’ve never used After Sun. But have used this soothing Aloe Gel when I had this BAD sunburn late last year. No alcohol was involved (bummer) but just the lack of common sense when I didn’t realise the sun would be THAT hot on that day while helping my Miss 8′s class with their bbq at the park!

I’ve never heard/used After Sun though o_O” And I didn’t know it was typical for Asians to get drunk after a beer or two! My uncles, friends, Aunties and here are pretty tank drinkers! They can take 10 without any hesitation!
Hahha
Trialling a product in a tipsy state.. you’re awesome!

Oh and I understand the sun-avoidance, being a super pale gal who starts peeling at the thought of sunlight, but you’re on your own re booze tolerence. I’m a bottle of red a night kinda lady myself.

21/02/2012 at 7:50 pm (453 days ago)I only use sunscreen on my face and that’s because I don’t want wrinkles or freckles! I feel like staying as your natural colour will do you better in the long run. I’m a super pale girl and I’ve come to love my skin colour.

@littlelucy, I always apply sunscreen on my face…but forget the rest of my body! I should start applying sunscreen on my hands because I don’t want it to go wrinkly when I’m older :-/

22/02/2012 at 6:33 am (452 days ago)Thanks for the recommendation. I have to be an unusual Asian. I drink like a fish and the only thing red in my face is my blush lol
I heard somewhere that if you take 2 tums before you start drinking, it helps the redness.

@Junella, WOW! No way!!! You’ve got the enzyme that many of us Asians don’t have
Ooh, should try the Tums trick…

23/02/2012 at 2:25 am (451 days ago)i’ve never used any after sun products. i don’t bake myself under the sun. i don’t like tanned skin. i try to avoid the sun mainly because i can’t wear sunscreen or any products with SPF on most body parts that are exposed to the sun. i’m allergic to sunscreen! how sad! my umbrella is my best friend (and i get annoyed people doing the raining gesture when they see me with umbrella…)

@coco, What? You’re allergic to sunscreen? How sucky is that? I broke out with a big rash when I wore SPF 90 sunscreen from NZ

Bun Bun Makeup Tips
23/02/2012 at 4:58 am (451 days ago)I am 100% Asian since I fulfill both criteria! I cannot hold my liquor AT ALL, my eyes become blood shot and I start laughing and giggling at the slightest nonsensical things my friends say. I also slap on sun screen if I need to go under the sun. Bought a hat from some random stranger just so I could stroll romantically with The Boyfriend along the beach without looking crazy with my bag shielding my face from the sun. And it was almost sunset! LOL.

I used to be able to bounce back easily but no more – I blame old age! *cries* WHY MEEEEE????!!!!

im lucky enough to not get drunk easily & get red from alchol, but i do hate tanning – damn my wannabe white-skinned vanity! Lol, this is definitely an interesting product though….. Might just invest in one when i “accidentally” fall into the sun’s ray & tan/burn my skin away~

07/03/2012 at 9:05 am (438 days ago)Even with sunscreen I think it’s good to use after sun! Sun still hits the skin and dehydrates it so the cooling gel is always welcome, Chris uses it often as a moisturiser because of the cooling gel texture:) Never heard of one claiming to prolong a tan though, but I suppose moisturised skin would hold colour better so it makes sense:)

@emmabovary, It’s funny how I wrote about this…because a few days ago, I really did get sunburn for the first time in my life. And it’s still sore today
Rubbing any moisturiser hurts!!! Thank God I found a cooling aftersun spray in my stash!
