NEW LOVE : Benefit Fake Up Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer

benefit fake up, benefit fake up medium, benefit fake up concealer

Do you remember me telling you that I attended the Benefit Fake Up event a few weeks ago?  Well, I was blessed with one of these babies in the goody bag.  *squee* Like all Benefit cosmetics, Fake Up has adorable packaging and design which cannot be faulted except that this isn’t fingerprint-proof.  Anyway, it is different to all the other concealers I have in my stash…

First up, can you believe it’s the only concealer stick I own?!!  I am extremely wary of concealer sticks because back in my young days (many, MANY moons ago), the formulas of them were atrocious and they did the adjective “cakey” a lot of justice!  But Benefit’s Fake Up Concealer is nowhere near cakey – in fact, it’s the total opposite!!!

Missha Signature Extreme Cover Concealer SPF 30++

Missha concealer, Missha BB cream, Missha no 23

Missha is an affordable Korean beauty brand and I love their BB cream, lipsticks, eyeshadows, nail polishes…heck, I love everything in that shop!  Hence, when my girl-friend Hannah asked me for concealer suggestions, I whisked her away to the nearest Missha store in Box Hill and she walked out later on with Missha Signature Extreme Cover Concealer SPF 30 ++.

Missha Signature Extreme Cover Concealer is a gorgeous pot of concealing goodness and comes with a cute little concealer brush.  The concealer comes in shades No 21 and No 23 (just like their Signature BB Cream) and it boasts of ingredients like collagen, glycerin and botanical butter which helps it blend beautifully masking imperfections like dark circles and red blemishes.  And even better, it has SPF properties – what a winning combination!

Missha Signature range, Missha concealer, Missha review

Hannah’s verdict :  She loves it!  Great buy at under $20!!!

I also gave her my Missha BB Cream in No 23 to try and if her skin doesn’t break out, she’s going to head back to buy that too.

I love living vicariously through other people’s make-up purchases especially when I have a big helping hand in the purchase.

Shu Uemura Point Cealer Gives Me Trypophobia!

Shu Uemura Mark Cealer, Shu Uemura concealer

My beloved HG (= Holy Grail) concealer Shu Uemura Mark Cealer was on its last legs, but by the time I got to my favourite Shu Uemura store in Hong Kong, it was all discontinued.  (FYI, I know David Jones in Australia sell Shu Uemura but I like to buy all my SU stuff in Hong Kong because I get my brows done at the same time which is redeemable on 2 SU products and in that particular SU store in Sha Tin, I am a frequent spender every time I go to HK so they load me up with plenty of samples.)  Anyway, I ended up buying the Mark Cealer replacement, Shu Uemura Point Cealer.  And to cut a long review short, I don’t like it!

Shu Uemura Mark Cealer, concealer, sponge tips

First of all, look at the way the concealer from Point Cealer extrudes out of the sponge tip!!  It’s like worms coming out of holes.  *shudder*  I have a phobia of round spherical holes in sponges, cheeses, plant pots and other stuff!!  It’s called trypophobia!  (<== click on that link if you dare but be warned, there’s a lot of holes!!!)  My teeth are clenching as I think about this and my whole body has goosebumps!!!  (BTW, my kids better now grow up liking Spongebob Squarepants otherwise I WILL disown them!)

Anyway it’s not so yukky after the sponge tips gets all dirty and the sponge holes become less noticeable.  However, that’s when it’s party-time for the bacteria!  Sigh!  Can’t win, can I?

Shu Uemura

Pushing all phobias – sponge holes and germs – aside, the texture of Shu Uemura Point Cealer is stickier and a bit thicker than the Mark Cealer – and I find it much harder to blend in.  Sigh.  The concealing properties aren’t that great on my dark circles.

shu uemura swatches

It may be due to the fact of the shade differences in the Point Cealer (left) and the Mark Cealer (right).  I tend to follow the Shu Uemura SA’s advice on shade matches because they seem to know their thang…but maybe this time, they got it wrong??  I mean, how can I be 7YR Medium with Mark Cealer (which is perfect match) but with Point Cealer, they got me 5YR Light…??

Famous Last Words

I have been extremely loyal to Shu Uemura for years.  I love their stuff from their primers to eyelash curlers to cleansing oils.  Shu Uemura Point Cealer is the first rogue product I have encountered.  *sobs*  Why did they have to discontinue my ultimate favourite concealer in the world???

P.S.  After I wrote this review, I tried to google up Shu Uemura Point Cealer but I can’t find it on any of the SU websites!!  Maybe it has been discontinued already…??!!!  What the…??

Has a similar thing happened to you?  Did you discover a miracle Holy Grail product; only to discover that the brand have discontinued sales?  The replacement products are just never that good.  Anyway, I am on the lookout for a new HG concealer so any recommendations are greatly welcomed.  Thanks.  And out of curiosity, what is your biggest weirdest phobia?

Australis Liquid Concealer Pen

I was keen to try an affordable drugstore concealer and Australis Liquid Concealer Pen caught my eye.  After checking out the testers of the 4 shades – Dark, Light Beige, Medium and Medium Dark – I decided Medium Dark was the closest match.

What Australis Say

Liquid concealer skin correcting formula lightens dark shadows, treats problem prone skin while diminishing the visible signs of ageing.

My Opinions

  • The clicky concealer brush pen reminds me of my YSL Touche Eclat days (those days are long gone as we are currently skint as a flint!)
  • The formula is a bit too thin and runny for my liking
  • Provides adequate coverage for the dark circles under my eyes
  • Claims to diminish visible signs of ageing – but I didn’t really notice that
  • Australis Liquid Concealer Pen gets a 7 out of 10 from The Best Beauty Blog

RRP : $12.95AUD

Shu Uemura Mark Cealer

When I buy a concealer, I consider 2 important things – great colour match with sheer to medium long-lasting coverage and a smooth creamy formula which blends well with no caking.  I have tried a number of concealers throughout the years, but Shu Uemura Mark Cealer has been my favourite concealer for 4 years.  The shade I use is 7YR Medium.

Shu Uemura Mark Cealer has a light and creamy formula, provides great coverage for my dark circles and blemishes, blends easily and does not cake and crease.  I use the sponge applicator tip to dab some product on the back of my hand and then using my fourth finger, I gently dab some around the area I am concealing.

One of these babies lasts me for ages, but as you can see, I am close to finishing it.  But apparently, Shu Uemura Mark Cealer has been discontinued and I couldn’t find it on the Shu Uemura US website.  However, I saw them in Melbourne city’s David Jones department store the other week so I’d better stock up before they discontinue it in Australia.
