Go Matte Or Go Home!

rimmel matte bb cream, maybelline fitme matte stick foundation, maybelline bold matte lipstick, OPI Matte black nail polish

Before I gave birth, I envisaged Maternity Leave to be a time where I would successfully juggle a newborn baby with a lot of free time to do whatever I wanted.  I imagined me being one of those Mums who would get up bright and early, do some yoga, make some fabulous smoothie concoction in a hipster Mason jar (and Instagram it!) and drink it with a stripy straw, followed by Baby Time and when she napped, I would be able to carry on my day and do plenty of blogging and make plenty of clean-eating meals, blah blah blah.  It all seemed so easy…

Reality check – it has been the total opposite!!!  I just have NO free time!!!  Motherhood is hard work and I’m not afraid to say that some days are a struggle because it is so intense and full-on.  It is, by far, the most difficult thing I have ever encountered.  But at the same time, I love it soooo much and I feel immensely blessed.

Anyway, I am rattling on (not an easy feat typing with one hand as the other hand/arm is cuddling the baby) when I am supposed to be introducing you to the Matte beauty stash I have been loving lately…  Yes, I still have a bit of time for makeup.  I refuse to be a frumpy mummy so I am happy being a semi-yummy mummy hehe…

rimmel matte bb cream

Rimmel Matte BB Cream :  BB creams have been a lifesaver for me recently because of the limited time I have to apply makeup.  I just slap this on all around my face and I look more “alive” and it hides a multitude of I-have-a-grumpy-teething-baby sins!

Time spent using this = 3 minutes for entire face

Maybelline Fit Me Stick Oil-Free Foundation

Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation :  I was having one of those I-haven’t-slept-all-night-because-of-grumpy-teething-baby mornings when I was frantically looking for my concealer as I was meeting a girlfriend for lunch.  But for some bizarre reason, this beauty blogger here who has drawers full of makeup could NOT find a concealer ANYWHERE (does that happen to you too??!!) so I grabbed this and slicked some on under my eyes to camouflage the eyebags and used my fingers to blend.  Brilliant!!!

Time spent using this = 2 minutes for both undereye areas

maybelline lipsticks

Maybelline Bold Matte Lipstick Mat 4 :  To perk me up even more, I’ve been loving vibrant lippy shades lately.  I used this without prior lip balm application and I was slightly worried that it would dry out my lips due to its matte nature…  But it didn’t!  I really really like it!  And it helps that Mat 4 is a gorgeous kind of tomato coral shade.

Mat 4 is the last shade swatched on arm.  I was comparing that to the other Maybelline lippies in my stash but that’s another post for another day.

Time taken to apply = 1 minute

OPI matte black, opi 4 in the morning

OPI 4 In The Morning :  I’m finishing off this post with this OPI matte black shade which is aptly named “4 In The Morning”  because of afore-mentioned grumpy teething baby!  Sadly, I haven’t been able to paint my nails lately as it takes too long for me to apply and wait for them to dry…  BUT I will try and get back to nail painting soon.

Time taken to apply = Non-Applicable

Anyway, I hope you have all enjoyed having a look at this selection of Matte beauty products.  I have more matte stuff like a matte eyeshadow palette I bought in UK which I still have yet to show you my haul…  Hopefully, I’ll get back on track next week because surely, teething cannot go on forever, right??!!

Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Wow, hard to believe baby bunty is teething already – that’s gone so quickly! I have Mat 6 (the deep burgundy) and, like most Maybelline, it really is nice, not the crusty old matte we used to wear back in the 90’s (are you old enough to remember Poppy lipsticks? Or ‘death brown’ as my old make up teacher used to call them..) :D

Yeah, I bet having a baby really eats up all your free time! I could not imagine doing it… So kudos to you for still looking yummy! I know you said you only look semi yummy, but I think you’re being to critical ;-) As for the matte finishes, love ‘em! A matte finish is just so much more forgiving imo.

While I’m not a huge fan of the Maybelline stick foundation, just couldn’t get a good coverage without it looking cakey, I love my Mat1 lippy which is a bright coral pink and I agree about the texture, for a matte lipstick it’s really smooth and soft and not drying at all plus it’s quite blendable so the brightness factor can be toned down. I’m also loving the Rimmel Matte BB cream, it goes on a little watery but blends and sets really well, great for oily skin.

I also need to thank Chemists Warehouse because without their current 50% off deal I wouldn’t have tried the BB cream or Matte lipstick :)

@Stacey, Did you try primer prior to foundation? I find that helps a lot when a foundation is cakey.

P.S. Chemist Warehouse 50% off deals are the BEST!!! Gotta love bargains :D
