Hi everyone!  I’m back from a crazy fun-filled long weekend in Sydney which was jam-packed with amazing events as part of ABBW, Australian Beauty Bloggers Weekend – will definitely share my experience, so watch out for that.  Meanwhile, let me rewind time to a few weeks ago, when I attended my first fashion show…

A few weeks ago, I received an email from Gaynor Alder telling me that I had won a pair of tickets to Melbourne Spring Fashion Week Designer Series Fashion Show.  Of course I was delighted…but then who would I go with?  I may be a social butterfly in Scotland but in Melbourne, I’m more Norma-no-mates!!  Anyway, I was just about to send out a tweet to invite a Melbourne beauty blogger friend when the Hubby declared that he was tagging along.  I said, “No!” but he insisted.  I have no idea why he wanted to come along as there is no way that he is into fashion!  He wears jeans that my Dad won’t even wear!!  Maybe it was to eye up pretty models…hmm…

Being a non-fashionista, I threw on a safe black dress and jazzed it up with red lippie and a faux tiger fur jacket.  (You can read my post on how to jazz up a black dress, if you haven’t done so yet!)  My Husband put on something that a 60-year-old bus driver wears!!!  *shakes my head*

I was excited to see a couple of bloggers that I follow there – Norlin and Lady Melbourne.  I mean, there were plenty of fashion bloggers there but I don’t read their blogs.  And if I saw any Aussie celebs, I couldn’t tell you because I’m not into Aussie celebs like the way I am into US and UK celebs.

We were seated in the second row from the catwalk and I felt like I was Tyra Klum – a cross between Heidi Klum from Project Runway and Tyra from America’s Next Top Model!!!  Hehe!  If only!!!

I loved the fashion show.  There’s just something about the way models strut down the catwalk with their neverending legs.  They walk with attitude and command your attention.  Some of the clothes were stunning but some of them were like, WTF?  For more detailed information on designers and whatnot, check out Norlin’s post.  I loved the hair and make-up and if you’re keen to find out what happened backstage, check out what Val had to say.

I was like a mad hatter during the show.  I was snapping plenty of piccies with my camera and then my phone as I tried to update Facebook and Twitter.  Unfortunately, my photos are really bad…so bad that I refuse to post them up on Facebook.  Sorry peeps.

As for my Husband, he brought along his iPad…which he turned off when the show started…but he didn’t really get excited till the following happened…

1.  Nip slip!  This model walked down the runway with her nipples on show.  Poor thing!

2.  PETA protesters gatecrashed the catwalk and yelled out “Fur is dead!” over and over again.  To be honest, I was a bit scared of them.  They yelled at a lady in the front row for wearing fur and she said, “It’s vintage!” …erm…okaaay…??!!  I don’t really have any opinions on “real fur” because I am not interested in owning “real fur”, but I know the animals are skinned alive.

Overall, I had an interesting night out and it ended with a visit to EasyWay for bubble tea!  I am also very proud to say that I am no longer a fashion show virgin!

Have you ever been to a fashion show?  What was your experience?

  1. LOL!! Boys always find something that is stupid to entertain themselves. Haha but the dresses you snapped were gorgoeus!! Not surprised about the PETA crashers though

  2. nice Ling! never had the chance to participate in one!

Just being curious, wondering why didnt you try to dress up your hubby? Alot of my girlfriends does this to their hubbies.. haha

  3. Well Ling, once you start going to fashion shows, you’ll get addicted – just like beauty!! 😉 It was great to bump into you that night. And wow, what a “show” it was wasn’t it? With the nip slip AND the PETA protest. Made things a little bit more exciting. Thanks for link btw. xx

  4. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the show! Gaynor 🙂

  5. Thank you for sharing with us what happened at the fashion show. I like it that you admit you’re not a fashionista and that your words are so unpretentious. I always assume that people who attend such events would heap praises and expound knowledge on the show. I also like how you always use your hubby as the comic element. lol… Really cute that he sat up at the nip slip and Peta protestors. I’ve watched video on such skinning and I don’t own any real fur too. Faux for me anytime!

    • @Jo, Awww, thanks for the lovely comment. And yeah, no way am I a fashionista! Didn’t even know what designer was what designer!!! >_<

  6. sounded like a great night out for you and hubby. I’ve been to a fashion parade only recently too and loved it but hated all the waiting around for the show to start.

  7. Oooh. Fashion show looks like fun!
And ahah, trust guys to find those things interesting xP Although the Peta protesters do look really scary :S

  8. Looks like you had fun, I’d love to go to a fashion show one day, and you saw Lady Melbourne! She is fabulous!

  9. That is so cool Tyra Klum!! And LOL@ hubby’s highlights!

I’ve been to a fashion show that was hosted by a store, but I guess it’s not a “real fashion show” by designers. I was still in awe of the tall, beautiful, leggy models though!

    • @Samantha, Tall. Beautiful. Leggy. Models. Everything that I am not!!!! *cries*

But yeah, fashion shows are pretty amazing. I’m not a fashionista but I can spot pretty girls hahahaha…er…okayyy…
