With Summer round the corner, it’s time to put some shrimps on the barbie, whip out the bikini, wear your sunnies and get serious with sunscreen.  Sunscreen should be worn all year round and it’s especially important in Australia as we have the highest incidence of skin cancer!

With a plethora of sunscreens on the market, it can get really confusing, even for a beauty fanatic like me, with all the sunscreen terminology and ingredients they use.  But I’m here to help you break it down and let you know why you should check out my new Summer BFFs – Invisible Zinc ESP Environmental Skin Protector SPF 30+ and Invisible Zinc UV Silk Shield Foundation.

Two important things you should know about sunscreen :-

1.  SPF

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, which measures the effectiveness of a sunscreen has on protecting against UVB rays only.  It does not measure UVA rays.  UVA rays are the same strength all year round and these are the rays which cause Ageing via sun spots and wrinkles.  UVB rays are the rays which cause Burning.  Prolonged exposure to UVA and UVB can cause skin cancer.

The highest SPF for sunscreens available in Australia is SPF30+. If used correctly, this can protect skin from 97 per cent of UV radiation.
{source}

2.  Physical vs Chemical

Physical sunscreens reflect UV light away from the skin’s surface.  The most common physical sunblockers are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.  However, research shows that zinc oxide is superior to titanium dioxide, as the latter does not protect against the entire UVA spectrum.
{source}

Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV light via chemical reactions, but this process can create a lot of free radicals.  When the body is overwhelmed with too many free radicals, it can cause premature ageing and wrinkling of the skin.  Examples of chemical sunscreen ingredients include oxybenzone, octocrylene and avobenzone.

So, I don’t know about you but after reading all that, my ideal sunscreen would be :-

– SPF 30+
– Protective against UVA and UVB rays
– Zinc oxide physical sunscreen

Would you agree?

Well, Say Hello to Invisible Zinc ESP Environmental Skin Protector SPF 30+…

Invisible Zinc ESP Environmental Skin Protector SPF 30+ ticks all the right boxes and it’s not just any old sunscreen, but it’s also a daily moisturiser – which means you can cut down the daily moisturiser step in your skincare routine.  Two pumps of this covers my entire face and neck and you will need to rub it in for 2-3 seconds longer than a normal moisturiser, but it doesn’t leave behind a white cast – which a lot of physical sunscreens can do.

It really lives up to its name “Invisible Zinc” because with an active ingredient of 20% zinc oxide, it doesn’t leave behind a sticky residue, there’s no white cast and it doesn’t leave behind a lingering scent.

And then there’s Invisible Zinc UV Silk Shield Foundation SPF 30+…

The Invisible Zinc UV Silk Shield Foundation SPF 30+ contains zinc oxide to protect from UV rays – but for a winning combination, I like to wear it on top of the ESP.  It is versatile and can be worn all over the face for full face coverage or used as a concealer to mask areas of imperfection.  It applies beautifully and blends in easily with fingers.  There are 3 colours to choose from – Light, Medium and Dark.  Medium is the perfect shade for me.

Look!  It really is invisible!

Can you see why both of these Invisible Zinc beauties are my new Summer BFFs?  Seriously, what’s not to love?

    AWESOME giveaway!!

What I love about summer…well I goddam love summer so youre in for a long list:
*the heat…I friggin love the heat (not so much being pregnant but I’d still take it over being cold anyday!)
*Christmas – who doesn’t love Christmas
*summer fruit – stone fruit, mangoes, cherries and grapes…as soon as they are back on the shelves me need for chocolate diminishes because i have plenty of natures candy about!
*skimpy clothes – i love short shorts and singlets, and feeling the warm breeze on bare skin
*the beach – swimming and sunbaking (with suncream on of course) and napping
*holidays – everyone seems to take time off around then so it is a great chance to catch up
*parties – there are a billion functions on at this time of year and they are always so happy and fun.

I freaking love summer and get sad when its over. Everything about summer is good, only the flies are bad!! Oneday, when I am loaded and the kids have left the nest I am going to embark on an endless summer and spend a year chasing it around the world!

What I love best about summer is the break I get from freezing solid the rest of the year! I must be a lizard because the heat barely affects me. I sleep with a mink blanket all year round and don’t bother to disconnect my electric blanket.
So summer to me is bare skin, going out without a coat and scarf, pretty dresses that only need one layer, strappy sandles and perfume.

What I love about summer is that extra sunlight. It lets me stay out longer, enjoying the heat, catching up at the beach, licking ice cream and dipping my toes in the water. And fish and chips at the beach = BEST in SUMMER.

I love the sun and beaches in summer since I am originally from a hot and sunny country 365 days all round the year. It’s good to get out of the freezing winter and jump into my favourite summer dresses/swimwear and enjoy the watersports.. jetski!!!

Love the sun however needs enough protection to avoid any sunburnt or dehydration on my skin!

I’m going to be honest with you – I don’t love Summer itself. I don’t like the heat, I don’t like the beach, and I sure as heck don’t like getting sunburned. So really, having some Invisible Zinc will make my summer a lot more enjoyable.
Having said all that, there are a few things I LOVE that only happen in Summer.
    1. Stone fruit comes into season – I crazy love stone fruit. I am basically living on it at the moment. Nothing better than filling my belly with delicious apricots, cherries and mangoes!
    2. Christmas! I am one of thos crazy people that waits all year for Christmas. Come the 1st of December I have the tree up, Christmas carols on my ipod, Christmas movies playing on the TV, and obnoxious Christmas earrings in my ears. I’m already planning our Christmas meal, and hae been shopping for presents all year!
So there you go – not a fan of Summer, but I love what it brings! x

Love this giveaway, I am dying to give this a go!
    What I love about summer…
Summer is the time where we strip down our layers of winter fashion which means putting the coats, stockings and scarves to the back of the wardrobe to make way for the bikinis, sarongs and dresses. I love that there is no more hiding under heavy clothing and we are forced out of our shells to expose our true beauty. Woman embrace their curves and do not shy away in summer so I say bring summer on and let our inner beauty shines through for every woman!

You can smell it in the air and it’s just so delicious.
Summer is the best season for fruit 🙂

    Hi Ling!
Wow… I can’t say much about what I love about summer because I absolutely dread it! I dread waking up in the morning in a puddle of my sweat and sticking to my seat all afternoon when I’m browsing the web…. Especially whenever I take public transport! Being all squished between so many people is not comfortable and the smell isn’t appealing either… But if there’s two things that I do love about summer is the fruits of that season! Mangos yummm!!!! Getting home after sweating all day to hop into an icy cold shower is the best feeling ever!

Thank you so much for this giveaway x

Wow I never knew UVA and UVB stood for Aging and Burning! :O That makes it so much easier to remember… haha.

What I love about Summer is that the days are longer – LOVE coming home at 7 and the sun still hasn’t set! And because the weather is so pleasant it just makes you want to go and enjoy the outdoors instead of staying bundled up inside like in winter. YAY for Summer!! 😀

I love summer because of the beautiful weather. It’s always hot enough to wear shorts or dresses that make you feel beautiful and there’s no worry of having to bring along a jacket. Summer is also the time when you finish your exams for school and that feeling of freedom you get from knowing there’s no more classes until next year is just indescribably liberating and refreshing. Summer’s also the time of the year where you fall in love~ All the best romances of my life began in the heat of summer and I’ve made the best memories under summer sun with new friends and more than friends. hehe
In the future when you look back and think about the best times of your youth they will most definitely be in from summer time!

What I love about the summer is eating a mango and having the juice dribble down my chin, sunsets at the beach, throwing frisbees at the park and eating rainbow paddle pops on our way to rent summer flicks at the nearby dvd store.

    Awesome giveaway!

The best things about summer is being able to sit outside with my best friends and soak up all the rays! I love all the smells, mown grass, flowers and everything else! Everyone is so much happier in summer, I live in a really cold place and a lot of people have Vitamin D deficiencys- NOT GOOD! So when it’s finally summer we all slap on the sunscreen and warm up our bods. I love how boys get cute freckles and we get awesome tans! haha 🙂

What I love I most about summer is that it’s not cold and you’re not shivering all the time like in winter. I also love that I’m on holidays in summer, and Christmas falls in summer so yummy food!

    19/11/2011 at 1:22 am (6 years ago)

Besides the typical stuff like summer fruits (mangoes YUM) and going to the beach. I really love how in summer, it’s easier to wake up in the morning, because in winter, when I wake up it’s so cold, i just can’t get up and snuggle in my blanket. But in summer, i don’t have that problem, so i’m not late to school.
Same with showers, in winter i literally stay in the shower for like an hour because i don’t want to get out because it’s so cold. No problem in summer. And i love those cold showers, so refreshing in the hot weather.
Oh and i can’t forget Christmas holidays, and the sales on boxing day!

What I love about summer is the feel of grainy sand between my toes, on my bed, in my car, bag, shower floor…wait, NO! That’s what I love about summer in theory!
What I really love about summer is sitting in the backyard with my dog – coconut water in hand – enjoying the light breeze that accompanies a balmy evening. That’s my sort of summer – insect repellent optional.

What I love most about summer: putting on as little an amount of clothing as possible without getting arrested and perving on guys (and girls!) who also aren’t wearing a lot, all while eating one of the many yummy, fresh fruits that are in abundance 🙂
