L’Oreal Shine Caresse – Stains / Wet Stains / Wet Shine Stains / Glossy Stains / Lipglosses / *insert name* – yes, for some bizarre reason, there isn’t a universal name for the hotly anticipated new lip products from L’Oreal Paris.  And from the swatches I have seen on beauty blogs, there appears to be different shade names from US, Asia (I bought mine in Hong Kong), Europe – and gawd knows how long they will take to be launched here in Australia??  (I am going to a L’Oreal blogging event next week so I will ask and get back to you!)

Anyway, I picked up 5 L’Oreal Shine Caresse Stains (it doesn’t say ‘Stain’ on the packaging, but I am going to use Stain to describe them anyway because it is easier to pluralise Stain to Stains than Caresse to Caresses because that word just turns me on 😛 *jokes*) in Hong Kong for $99 HKD each which is around $12.50 AUD.  There are only 4 pictured because I am saving one for a future giveaway because I am nice like that 🙂

The packaging is a chic slimline gold metallic plastic casing which unfortunately, is a fingerprint party.  I like how there is a window to show off the colour but the design bugs me because for them to stand up straight, they have to be placed upside down with the lid on the bottom as the actual base is too small and is almost like a stiletto heel.  You’ll understand when you see it.  It is not a dealbreaker and it is not as if I line up all my lipglosses like bowling pins so I have no idea why it even bothers me.

Moving on…

L’Oreal Shine Caresse Stains have a teardrop-shaped applicator with an indent in the centre which is where the stain likes to gather and ooze out of.  I like the shape of the teardrop as it is great to apply around my cupid’s bow on my lips and helps accentuate them.

These L’Oreal Shine Caresse Stain swatches are HEAVILY swatched on my NC-30-ish arm in shaded daylight :-

  • Bella 604 – rosy pink with subtle pink microshimmer
  • Eve 605 – bright fuchsia pink with corresponding microshimmer
  • Lolita 606 – appears cool pink almost lilac, but when swatched, it’s one shade cooler than Bella
  • Juliette 702 – bright orange-red with no shimmer

When lightly applied, they are actually more sheer than shown.  But the colour is buildable which is a big plus.  Once the stain dries, it leaves behind a non-sticky, yet glossy finish and it does stain!!!  The lasting power is great.

One more thing to note – there is a light flowery scent which I actually really like because it doesn’t linger and it tastes okay.

Do I love the L’Oreal Shine Caresse Stains?  The answer is a big resounding YES!!!  It looks more expensive than it actually is and the formula is beautiful.

Which leads me onto YSL Glossy Stain.

YSL Glossy Stain dupe

Is L’Oreal Shine Caresse a dupe* of YSL Glossy Stain?  YES (*for those who don’t speak beauty jargon, dupe is beauty product which is a less expensive duplicate of a high-end version)

Which one do I prefer – YSL Glossy Stain or L’Oreal Shine Caresse?  *suspenseful music please*  L’Oreal Shine Caresse!!!  I’ll list my reasons another day as I have a Husband to entertain.

As for the L’Oreal Shine Caresse giveaway, make sure you are stalking me on my other beauty blog, Lip Stalker.  The shade you could potentially win is 900 Pretty Woman – see what I did there?  Yes, a Pretty Woman will win Pretty Woman 🙂

Okay…back to the Husband…and my weekend…  Enjoy yours whatever you get up to 🙂

  1. LMAO I literally LOL’d when you said the word turns on you and about never lining them up like bowling pins so you have no idea why it bothers you anyways! You are too funny Ling! I suggest you leave the shade Pretty Woman for yourself then… if you get what I mean jellybean! Hahaha

These look great and I’m keen to know when they’ll launch in Australia. Please get back to us when you know!! I wonder how much they’ll retail for too… Oh god.

By the way, I LOVE your new blog design!! Well done! xx

    • @Tram, You are a cute jellybean!!! Was so good to see you last Friday!!! IMATS is too far away!!! And have you seen L’Oreal Caresse Shine in shops yet. They are out!!! At $23.95 each – you need to go and swatch them like you did with the Maybelline lippies 🙂

  2. thanks for the review! and hey new layout!

we have them here already, but still haven’t purchase it, I think I remember someone said it was a little drying, so I am still waiting for others to review it and see how.

    was this drying on you?

    • @plue, Well spotted plue 🙂 Yes, new layout…but alas, still not perfection in my eyes….

Anyway, yeah – now that you mention the drying, I have read a few reviews that said that…and I am the FIRST to notice drying especially when I have dry lips to begin with…but seriously, NOTHING! Lips are still nice and glossy and moist afterwards with all the different shades. And that is applying directly to lips with no base.

  3. Oooh I cant wait for these to be released! I think juliette is exactly what I am looking for but these look so interesting that I would probably end up getting all the shades.
( I am so glad you’re blogging more atm, I love reading your blog!)

    • @X.Lee, Yes, they are officially released now!!! And so is L’Oreal CC Cream!!!! RUN!!! But they are $23.95 so wait for a special offer 😉

And thanks so much for the support lovely xx

  4. I have two of these (plus the one you are holding for me), and I’m not sure what to think of them!

Can’t say its love at first application but they certainly aren’t a bad product!

I’m going to hold my thoughts until I’ve had a chance to play with them a bit more…regretting not getting a red though!

  5. Hi, I still haven’t seen them in shops though. I’m on the Gold Coast although they are advertised in the Target catalogue that starts tomorrow but as usual, target know nothing about them. Cute blog by the way 🙂
