When you get to my age, you will either embrace wrinkles and age gracefully or be like me – hunt for the magic elixir to retain your youth.  Being a beauty blogger means that beauty brands will occasionally send me a number of products to review and sometimes, there are a few products in the same category so I get to pick and choose which brand to trial first.  Call me superficial but I choose the ones with the fancy packaging because they catch my attention.  Unfortunately, for Made From Earth Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum, it didn’t appeal to my visual senses so it sat there feeling unloved for weeks, even months…  And when I did finally get round to it – Boom Boom Pow!!  Read on to find out why…

Made From Earth, serum

Who Are Made From Earth?

Made From Earth are a US skincare brand who pride themselves with using the highest possible levels of certified organic ingredients and fruits sourced from certified organic farms.  {website}

Made From Earth Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum contains powerful organic nutrients of DMAE, vitamin A, B, C and E, and alpha lipoic acid along with the wonder oil meadowfoam. Our blended formula counteracts dryness that occurs in aging skin and increases the moisture retention capacity. This will eventually improve your skins elasticity. ProVitiamin B5 stimulates skin regeneration while the organic compound DMAE immediately tightens and firms the skin for a fresh youthful appearance.

My Opinions

Don’t be deceived by the inconspicuous packaging and unattractive yellow serum because it’s all about the ingredients.  Ingredients which really work to be your skin’s best friend!  My skin has fallen in love with Made From Earth Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum because this serum hydrates very well and firms up skin after continued usage.

It ‘s a bit sticky and requires more rubbing in than my usual serums, but once it’s rubbed in, it takes 2 minutes max to soak into my skin.  There is something strangely addictive with its sour orangey plum smell which makes me want to sniff it all the time.  It may be too rich for non-dry-skinned peeps, but it’s worth trying it for a RRP of $39.99 USD because it’s not exactly breaking the bank for a serum  that works.

I have used this for 4 weeks every morning after my toner and before my SPF day lotion and I kid you not – my skin is definitely firmer.  There were no breakouts and no flaky skin during this period of use.  Boom Boom Pow indeed!

Product Ingredients

My amateur ingredient-reading skills tell me that there’s a lotta good stuff in this serum.  One day, perhaps upon request, I will start intensive analysis of ingredients for you all, but for now, Google is your BFF!  Otherwise, if you’re a DIY-skincare-lovin’ beauty guru, please shed some advice on the potency of these ingredients.

    I couldn’t resist commenting 😉

Compared to other serums on the market, this is certainly one of the better ones. It’s great that they use some proven actives in there.

However, there are a few things to note…

    1. Vitamin A and Vitamin C should not be used together. Vitamin C is generally used in the morning because it works well with sunlight (and in combination with Ferulic Acid actually produces a mild SPF), yet Vitamin A degrades in sunlight, so should be used at night. On top of this, when it comes into contact with sunlight it can actually accelerate aging, cause skin cancer etc etc so really a good idea to use this before bed (although the amount here is so small it’s probably not going to be a massive hazard, but I wouldn’t wear it out during the day).
    2. DMAE – meh, could take or leave it.
    3. Rather than throwing in everything and the kitchen skin, this company would do better to choose a few actives (like B3 and Vitamin A, or Vitamin C, E and Co Q10) and add them to the serum in higher amounts to maximise the improvement to the skin, and thus the potency of the serum. Sometimes more is not better.
    4. Vitamin C degrades fairly quickly. Personally, I use my vit c serums within about a month to optimise freshness. If there was a high amount of vit c in this formulation, they would have written it on the bottle, but even if there was, chances are it would have lost its potency by the time it got to you.
    5. B3 and B5 are nice ingredients, but again, if they were present in even higher amounts, they would be even more effective!

And that’s my two cents 😉

@Dempeaux, Your two cents are awesome! As of this morning, I didn’t use the serum and will be saving it for evening. Will also swot up DIY serums this weekend! Thanks gorgeous! You’re my Skincare Guru!
