OPI Pink Shatter – I have swatches!!!!!  I had read the press release on various beauty blogs and I had lusted after it, but I never expected to get sent this for review.  A big shoutout to Lisa, the lovely Australian PR for OPI – you rock!   Please note that this will be a biased review because pink is my favourite colour!  When you look at the amazing colour combinations which can be achieved with OPI Pink Shatter, I guarantee that you will fall in lust too.

For those of you who don’t know how shatter nail lacquers work, where have you been? simply apply a base nail colour of choice and then apply the shatter on top and watch it transform into a shattered effect.  (Check out my other nail shatter blog posts with OPI Black Shatter and Missha Leopard Print .)

OPI Pink Shatter

What OPI Say

During the month of September and October, OPI joins forces with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, for our 7th year as silver sponsors, where 100% of profits from the sale of the limited edition Pink Shatter will be donated to the Foundation.

What Is The Best Shade To Apply With OPI Pink Shatter?

I chose a range of colours – pale pink, yellow pastel, deep blue and black shimmer – as I felt they would look good in contrast with the fuchsia pink shatter.  All swatches taken with Sally Hansen Insta-Grip Fast Dry Base Coat and 2 coats of colour followed by 1 coat of OPI Pink Shatter and no top coat was used.

(Warning : At first, you may recoil in disgust at my dry, cracked cuticles – but look beyond that, and you will drool over the gorgeousness that is OPI Pink Shatter!)

OPI Step Right Up! + OPI Pink Shatter

OPI, pink shatter, Step Right Up
The pale pink contrasts beautifully with the hot pink.  I can definitely see me wearing this combo a lot!  It’s pink perfection!

FACE OF AUSTRALIA Luxe Lemon Sorbet + OPI Pink Shatter

OPI Pink Shatter, FOA Lemon Sorbet

Here, the colour of the shatter looks more coral than pink.  I didn’t think yellow nails suited me, but with this tropical combo, I am drooling!

Rimmel I Heart Lasting Finish Azure + OPI Pink Shatter

OPI Pink Shatter, Rimmel, blue nail polish
Using this Rimmel deep blue nail polish as a base has somehow made the shatter appear violet – wouldn’t you agree?  The films Avatar and X-Men (because of Mystique) spring to mind!

FACE OF AUSTRALIA Molten Metallics Iron Ore + OPI Pink Shatter

OPI, pink shatter, FOA Molten Metallics, black shimmer, nail polish
Are you mopping up your drool yet??  I just love the random textures which can be created with shatter polishes.

My Opinions

OPI Pink Shatter is a beautiful hot fuchsia pink which can look different depending on which base colour is used.  The formula was easy to work with and I felt I had more working time with it compared to OPI Black Shatter.  The finish is semi-matte, but for a high gloss finish, use a top coat.

With the profits going to a great cause, I would highly recommend purchasing this – but please go to authorised sellers as there are many fake OPI’s on the market.

A Little Extra Experiment

So I got curious and wondered what it would look like with 2 shatter nail lacquers on top of each other…so I applied Step Right Up! and Pink Shatter followed by Black Shatter…and I think I can safely say that I have satisfied my curiosity, but won’t be trying that again.

(Disclosure : The only nail polish featured in the photos which was purchased by me was Rimmel I Heart Lasting Finish Azure and OPI Black Shatter.  All others were provided by PRs for review purposes, in accordance with The Best Beauty Blog’s disclosure policy.)

@Sophie, Yes, I’ve seen the crackle effects from China Glaze, Barry M, Missha, etc etc and I love them all. We don’t have Barry M in Melbourne methinks… Ahhh…I miss UK!!! And yes, isn’t OPI Pink Shatter pretty? 😉

Wow! I used to want the black shatter but now I don’t. I must say the pink shatter is BEAUTIFUL. I love it! I won’t waste my time finding it though. People here are obsessed with the shatter nail polishes. When I wanted the black one, one store was sold out and they wouldn’t get new ones for a month -___-

Hi, I was wondering, do you know how it compares to China Glaze’s Broken Hearted crackle?

@caddy, Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get my paws on China Glaze Crackle… 🙁
