Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation – My Favourite Foundation of All Time!
The title says it all really! I cannot believe it has taken me nearly 2 years of beauty blogging to finally blog and review my favourite foundation of all time – Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation in shade 754. I have used it for YEARS – 5 or 6 or 7?? Who’s counting anyway? But seriously, I have yet to try a foundation that works miracles like this SU baby does! The formula trumps every single foundation I have ever reviewed on this blog…thus far! Here’s the lowdown on it…
About Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation
Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation has “smooth and refined texture with control which gives just the right amount of coverage to make skin look naturally flawless”.
Taken from Shu Uemura’s website, this foundation is recommended for ladies who prefer :-
- a fresh and natural look with comforting fit
- sheer to medium coverage
- semi-matte finish with a hydrating sensation
The shades of the Shu Uemura foundations are in 3 digits and have logic behind it :-
- The first digit tells you how pink or yellow the foundation is - 1 is the most pink , 5 is neutral and 9 is the most yellow
- The second digit goes from dark to white – 0 is the darkest and 9 is the lightest
- The third digit tells you chroma, whether the undertone of the foundation is blue or violet
If that sounds too complex, just head to your nearest Shu Uemura counter and swatch away and get shade matched! For your reference, I am NC-30 and shade 754 is my perfect shade.
My Tribute to Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation
I can’t exactly remember when I was introduced to this Japanese brand but I know it was in Hong Kong as they have Shu Uemura concept stores sprinkled everywhere. Whenever I go to Hong Kong (my second home; Scotland is my first home and Australia is my third home), I stock up on my SU goodies and get a free brow shaping session as well. I remember one of the SA’s trying this miracle foundation on my face and it totally made me look like a highly refined version of me. I was sold immediately!
As I have been using Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation for years, I know how to work it best for my skin. Yes, it can be applied with a sponge or foundation brush, but I just warm it up with my fingertips and dab away till I get the coverage I want. Of course, I LOVE to use my Shu Uemura Mousse Base, Shu Uemura concealer (not the new concealer though) and set it with my Shu Uemura Face Powder to complete the look – but it also works well with other primers, concealers and powders too.
It just works wonders. Hides pores. Smooths away flaky skin. Gives me that dewy glow. Lightweight formula. Divine, just divine! That is an unedited photo of me wearing Shu Uemura foundation. I look like I have flawless skin when I don’t.

What’s it called again? Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation
How much is it in Australia? RRP $68 at David Jones (or you can buy it online)
Sell it to me in 5 words My all-time favourite foundation!
P.S. I mentioned on my blog a few weeks ago that I was running out of my beloved SU foundation, when my Foundation Fairy at Shu Uemura stepped in and gifted me a brand new Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation! I NEARLY DIED! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
P.P.S. Apologies for the shortage of posts and for not posting about #BBU12 and my #IMATS weekend in Sydney yet but I hurt my neck and couldn’t move it for 3 days!! Doctor ordered me to not go on my laptop so I am VERY behind but I sneaked this one in! But hopefully, will catch up soon because I am bursting full of creativity
What is your all-time favourite foundation? Have you seen the new Shu Uemura and Karl Lagerfeld collaborations? Oh so cute!

@Sarah, Why are you on a “no buy”? How can beauty bloggers go on spending bans? I have never ever succeeded!!! I said that I wouldn’t buy anything this year after buying a DSLR and the next day, I went shopping hahaha.
And yes, Hong Kong is amazing…but I want to go to Japan next

@Ling, lol I’m on a no buy as I want to save money for my next trip! I was going to be going to NYC and Japan but now Japan and Korea. I’m really looking forward to it as I’ll be going with one of my oldest friends, who taught in Korea for a while. We aren’t going till Oct next year so you’ll have to share travel tips if you go before us!

she matched me to shade 764, which is a pretty good match for me, just a bit too yellow for my liking.
i get bits of dry patches around the cheeks though, but i think that’s cuz my skin’s a bit dry. but the coverage is awesome, hides my pores and most freckles and gives me a beautiful finish!

@plue, Did she prime your skin beforehand? I have dry skin too and primer is a MUST before any foundation. And yay to awesome coverage! But do you still prefer the Powder Foundation? Hmmm…must give this a try next time I’m in the city because that’s the only place where they sell SU in Melbourne….

@plue, Ooooh I must try the Shu Powder Foundation version! The only compact powder that I LOVE is one from Clinique. I have no idea why I haven’t tried any other SU foundation but I think it’s because I am so IN LOVE with this Smoothing Fluid that I don’t feel the need to try any other from the range. That’s weird. I must change that hahaha.
And oooh, have you tried the SU brow pencils? I bought one for my sister last year but I really wanted it for myself gah!!!

@Ling, yup! she did, prime my skin with the tsuya mousse base, but i think my skin is just a problematic child, because most of the time it’s more of oily than dry.
i have shu’s brow pencils, they last really long! i can never seem to ever finish it. i do my brows at shu because i love that one particular SA there lol.
i love the powder foundation because it’s really convenient and finds it looks better after i oil up, blot off the shinies and i still look good! that’s how i got my sister in buying one herself and loving it too!
oops i ramble a wee bit too much! sorry!

And please don’t apologise for rambling!! I am the Queen of Rambling

11/10/2012 at 2:49 pm (224 days ago)I’ll give this a go once my skin clears up more! My problem with foundations is that my skin needs a lot of spot concealing due to acne scars and marks, so no matter how great a foundation is, I need it to be full coverage instead of sheer to medium. Thanks for the recommendation

@dom, Oooh you sound like my sister who is called Yvonne too
She also has a lot of concealing to do and she has to use a full coverage foundie – hmm…need to find out what she uses. What do you recommend?
