Smashbox recently launched their new and limited edition, Girls On Film Colour Collection, in Australia.  With eyeshadow palettes, cream eyeliners, blushers and lip glosses in the press release, I was an eager beaver and didn’t hesitate to ask the PR if I could review any product in the collection.  And that is how Smashbox Girls On Film Cream Eye Liner Travel Brush Set in Blacklight landed on my doorstep.

I ooh-ed and aah-ed over it for days.  The cream black eyeliner with a hint of blue pearl looked so beautiful in its wee glass jar – I didn’t want to dip into it to crack the seamless surface with the flat-edged liner brush.  But you know, a beauty blogger’s gotta do her job so read on to find out if this Smashbox product was a smash hit.

My Review Of Smashbox Girls OnFilm Cream Eye Liner Travel Brush Set In Blacklight

I don’t need to repeat how much I love the packaging.  The flat-edged liner brush provided is a great brush which made it easier for me to line closely to my upper lash line with a couple of strokes.  However, more skill is required to create a flirtatious flick at the outer edge using this brush and I am still working on that.  The intensity of the black is very good and evenly distributed when the brush is loaded up properly.

The cream eyeliner glides on lids easily…but that is also the downfall.  It glides off easily too.  When I used it for the first couple of times, I didn’t use an eye primer and after 2-3 hours, it would start to smudge and after 5 hours, my oily eyelids would take over and totally destroy it.  As you can see in the photo, it is not a good look at all.  With primer, it is a different story and lasting power is doubled up.  Nevertheless, I was slightly disappointed because the other cream/gel eyeliner I use does not budge whatsoever with or without primer.

For me, the limited edition Smashbox Girls On Film Cream Eye Liner Travel Brush Set is a smash hit, but only when used with primer.

  1. Great review. I currently still love Maybelline eyestudio cream liner in Black. When I use it on myself, it stays where I put it. With or without primer. I even went clubbing with it and it stayed put.

I have another fav which is Napoleon Perdis’ china doll cream liner. It’s so soft and smooth. Haven’t fully tested that yet though.
