Go Matte Or Go Home!

Before I gave birth, I envisaged Maternity Leave to be a time where I would successfully juggle a newborn baby with a lot of free time to do whatever I wanted.  I imagined me being one of those Mums who would get up bright and early, do some yoga, make some fabulous smoothie concoction in a hipster Mason jar (and Instagram it!) and drink it with a stripy straw, followed by Baby Time and when she napped, I would be able to carry on my day and do plenty of blogging and make plenty of clean-eating meals, blah blah blah.  It all seemed so easy…

Reality check – it has been the total opposite!!!  I just have NO free time!!!  Motherhood is hard work and I’m not afraid to say that some days are a struggle because it is so intense and full-on.  It is, by far, the most difficult thing I have ever encountered.  But at the same time, I love it soooo much and I feel immensely blessed.

Anyway, I am rattling on (not an easy feat typing with one hand as the other hand/arm is cuddling the baby) when I am supposed to be introducing you to the Matte beauty stash I have been loving lately…  Yes, I still have a bit of time for makeup.  I refuse to be a frumpy mummy so I am happy being a semi-yummy mummy hehe…

Review of Maybelline Pure BB Mineral BB Watergel

Maybelline BB Watergel, Maybelline Pure BB Cream, Maybelline BB Cream

Another day, another BB cream.  Yes, I know there’s a new alphabet cream in town going by CC, but blame it on these words – “Japan Exclusive”.  Yes, as soon as I read that, I whipped out my Hong Kong dorrahs ($99 to be precise) for the Maybelline Pure BB Mineral BB Watergel.  You see, I am under the impression that everything from Japan is AMAZING – e.g. ramen noodles, sushi, sashimi – oh wait, that’s just food.  Okay, um, my fave beauty gadget Hitachi Hada Crie and I also like Liese Bubble Hair Color Dyes.  So I assumed that I would love this BB Watergel… (but be warned, you should never assume because you make an ASS of out of U and ME)

In short, this is Chanel’s definition of CC Cream  – an ideal cream for day-long confidence with a lightweight, non-oily, comfortable texture which delivers complete correction and natural-looking, long-wear makeup.

A Review Of Skin79 BB Creams : Diamond Luminous Pearl, VIP Gold Super Plus, Hot Pink Super Plus & The Oriental Gold

Skin79 bb cream, review, pink, gold, oriental, luminous, BB creams

In the BB Cream community, one of the popular brands is Skin79 – a Korean BB Cream.  Last year, I bought the most adorable Miniature Set which contained 4 samples of :-

1.  Skin79 Diamond Luminous Pearl BB Cream
2.  Skin79 VIP Gold Super Plus BB Cream
3.  Skin79 Hot Pink Super Plus BB Cream
4.  Skin 79 The Oriental Gold BB Cream

Don’t be fooled by the miniature size of these BB Creams because surprisingly, they have lasted me for ages and I have nearly just finished one of them – The Oriental Gold BB Cream – which must mean it was my favourite out of them all!

My Mini Reviews On Skin79 BB Creams

For ease of reading, I am going to break them down and talk about them individually :-

1.  Skin79 Diamond Luminous Pearl BB Cream

This was my least favourite out of them all because it was the only one without SPF, whereas the rest had SPF 25+, and it contained too much shimmer for my liking,  Complete with a whiter-than-my-skin-colour and pearlised finish, it made me look like I was a Twilight vampire.    It is also a lot runnier than the others and it squirts out the tube too easily.  I must give it credit for being the only BB Cream here which has a name which makes sense to what it truly is – diamond luminous pearl, indeed!

2.  Skin79 VIP Gold Super Plus BB Cream

This warmed and adapted to my skin tone relatively well.  I liked it for its nourishing feel and medium coverage and gave a nice glow.

3.  Skin79 Hot Pink Super Plus BB Cream

It’s so similar to the VIP Super Gold Plus that I can barely distinguish them except the Hot Pink one has a slight pink undertone in its shade – but when blended in, I can’t tell which one is which.  I do like this a tad more simply because of its hot pink packaging.

4.  Skin 79 The Oriental Gold BB Cream

Again, this is quite similar to its Gold and Pink sisters, but it’s marketed for the more mature skin.  And hello, that’s me!  No wonder this was my favourite.  It is thicker and has a more tacky feel than the rest of them because it is simply more nourishing and hydrating for the dry, mature-skinned ladies.  When I use this, I like to lightly dust my face with finishing powder just to help take off the excess shine.

The shades are slightly off from my NC-30 face but it adapts better when I warm it up with my fingertips and apply it light-handedly and build it up slowly with lots of blending.  I didn’t experience any breakouts from any of these BB Creams and they don’t budge even after 15 hours of wear and tear.

Skin79 has a wide range of BB Creams to suit different skin types and needs.  If you’re a newbie to BB Creams, I would highly suggest getting your hands on a Miniature Set like this to test out which one suits you.  And ooh, I found this useful guide to help choose the right Skin79 BB Cream.  I’m sure I read somewhere about the launch of a new orange Skin79 BB Cream but it’s not featured on the guide.

Have you tried Skin79 BB Creams before?  Which one did you like?

L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream – Review & Swatch

Missha BB Cream, Skin 79 BB Cream, L'Oreal BB Cream, No17 BB Cream, Garnier BB Cream

The BB cream craze took off in Asia years ago, but it’s a relatively new thing in the Western beauty world.  A number of Western cosmetic brands (e.g. Biotherm, Garnier, No7, 17, MUA, L’Oreal – mainly from Europe as Australia haven’t caught on yet) have jumped on the BB cream bandwagon and come up with their own interpretations of BB creams.  This has upset some hardcore Asian BB cream fans because they feel that the Western BB creams are not “real” BB creams.  But that’s probably how lipstick started out too; i.e. matte lipstick is different from satin lipstick.  I think it’s great seeing all different types of BB creams on the market because it means more choice for us, ladies!  Anyway, let’s all be friends and declare our love for all BB Creams and get on to today’s review of L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream.  (Thanks sis for buying me this!)

About L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream

L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream is the ultimate all-in-one perfecting cream.  A feather-light hydrator which transforms on contact with skin, releasing smart pigment capsules to correct tone, cover imperfections and refine skin texture.  Has SPF 12 and provides up to 24 hours hydration.

My Review On L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream

First up, I’m going to shorten the name to L’Oreal Paris BB Cream because I am too lazy to type the entire name.  The L’Oreal Paris BB Cream is housed in a sleek squeezy tube with a thin nozzle which is a winner in my eyes because it is easy to control the amount I will use without excess waste.

Initial Impression

Here comes the shocker…

I squeezed some out onto the back of my hand to swatch and was shocked to see that it was quite runny and it was white with tiny purple granules (the “smart pigment capsules”).  White with purple??!!  What kind of BB cream is this??

I sniffed it.  It’s unscented.

And then I gently rubbed it into my skin.  I could feel the grittiness of the smart pigment capsules but within seconds, they disintegrated and miraculously, they blended beautifully together to match my skin tone and my skin lapped it up.  L’Oreal Paris BB Cream has a dry, matte-ish finish and its definitely not like the traditional Asian BB creams.

On My Face

I’m really impressed how L’Oreal Paris BB Cream adapts to my skin colour and it doesn’t oxidise.  It is ultra-lightweight and doesn’t leave behind a tacky finish like the Asian BB creams I use.  Being so light means that it doesn’t exactly mask all my sun spots, but it does even out my complexion.

As it provides a matte-ish finish, I don’t need to set it with powder.  But it’s not as moisturising as I would like it and it doesn’t give me a radiant glow so I need to bring out the illuminators.  And don’t get me started on the SPF 12 – it’s so low!  What’s the point?

Classifying L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream as a BB cream may infuriate BB cream lovers.  The formulation is nowhere near Asian Blemish Balms nor tinted moisturisers – it’s in a BB cream category of its own.  I can sort of see why they called it Nude Magique…  It’s made for girls who have almost flawless skin.  For girls who have acne scars, I point you in the direction of the Asian BB creams.

One more thing – L’Oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream comes in Fair and Medium Skin Tones…but if the smart pigment capsules are that smart, surely one shade would suit all…??

Anyway, what are your thoughts on BB Creams?  Love them or hate them?  Or are you still a BB Cream virgin?

SANA Pore Putty BB Cream

A couple of months ago, my guy friend came to visit me.  He stopped over in Hong Kong and I knew I had to get him to bring over some Sasa goodies.  Unfortunately, he’s a guy so he doesn’t have a clue about beauty products so I sent a shopping list to my girl cousin and told her to go crazy and buy me the newest hot items in Sasa.  Amongst the haulage was SANA Pore Putty BB Cream, which I am going to review today.  SANA is a Japanese brand and that’s all I know about them.  As for those who don’t know what BB cream is, it’s short for Blemish Balm, and it’s basically like a tinted SPF moisturiser which has skin regenerating properties {wikipedia}.
