What’s In My Beach Bag?

What's in my beach bag?

{ Happy Friday peeps!  I had a Peking Duck dinner date last night so didn’t have time to prepare a post for today so I had a look at my unpublished drafts and here is what I found -‘What’s In My Beach Bag?’!!!  I actually wrote this over a year ago…but it seems kinda apt because Melbourne has been crazy hot and great beach weather if you like getting sunburnt 😉

Looking back at this post, I realised that I made a great investment by purchasing this DSLR camera for better photos 😛  Anyway, on with the post and I wish all the Aussie peeps a happy long Labour Day weekend 🙂  4.5 hours till mine starts 🙂  (yes I am typing this whilst having a wee break at work – shhh!!!) }

Melbourne has been going through some sunny spells recently and you know what that means, right?  Time to hit the beach!  Here’s what I put in my beach bag :-

Must Try : Biotherm Facials At Myer

A couple of weeks ago, the Facial Fairy Godmother blessed me with a Biotherm Facial at Myer in Melbourne City.  I was really excited as I have been a big fangirl of both Biotherm and facials since my teenage years.

In my experience, facials come in 2 categories :

1.  The No Pain, No Gain Facial – this involves extractions of pimples (ripe and unripe), blackheads, whiteheads, milia complete with clenched fists and clenched teeth!  I walk out the beauty salon with a pepperoni pizza face.

2.  The Pampered-To-Death Facial – Gloriously relaxing where I walk out the salon with a radiant glow and it’s the only time I look good sans make-up!

I can testify that Biotherm Facials are of the latter category!!

Here is what happened when I went for my Biotherm Facial…

After a consultation with Peou, my beauty therapist, about my skin concerns, I was led into the Facial Room where I practically leapt onto the Facial Chair.

Peou, worked her magic on my face with some amazing Biotherm products and within minutes, I drifted off into a deep and relaxing sleep…until one of my loud snores woke me up.

“Come on Ling!  WAKE UP!  You’ve got to blog about this later so STAY AWAKE!  What is Peou doing now?  Oh my gosh…that feels soooooo good!  How does she do that?”

Peou was massaging my shoulders; ironing out all the knots…and it was so good that I went back to sleepy-land yet again!  The next time I woke up was when she gently lifted out my arms to apply the most wonderful-smelling Biotherm Eau Vitaminee Fragrance Mist.  It reminded me of Eau Pure and is on my never-ending wishlist already!

And before I knew it, my 45 minutes was up!  I floated out the door feeling refreshed, with glowing skin and smelling absolutely great.

I highly recommend Biotherm Facials!!!  Check your nearest Biotherm counter at Myer for more details on the next Facial Event.  It costs $65 which is redeemable on Biotherm products – Hello Bargain!!!

P.S.  Sorry for the lack of photos.  I flew out the door that day and forgot my camera.  My iPhone photos are definitely not blog-worthy.  But you can see pretty pictures and read more about the Biotherm Facials from my beauty blogging friends – Emily and Tine.

Are you a facial fan too?  What are your plans for the weekend?

My Current Signature Scents Featuring Biotherm & Balenciaga

If I am truly honest, my signature scent begins with B and ends with O.  Some of us have it and some of us don’t.  I have it but my other half doesn’t.  Damn him!  Companies who sell deodorants / body sprays / EDTs / perfumes are rolling in money thanks to our smelly problem!  Anyway, I have currently stopped using all the deodorants that I own because I have had a few pus spots in my pits.  YUK!  I know!  Tell me about it!!!  Instead, I am relying on these two babies to keep me smelling good – Biotherm Eau Pure by Vanessa Bruno for daytime and Balenciaga L’Essence Eau De Parfum for the evening.

Biotherm Eau Pure by Vanessa Bruno

My husband and I both love this refreshing light scent.  It smells like the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer.  It makes me feel happy and awakened.  I love that it’s in a purse spray because I can take it anywhere and spritz it when needed…but at the same time, it’s running out quickly!  Yes, this is a PR sample but I was hoping to buy a few more of these or even a bigger bottle in the Biotherm stores in Hong Kong – but there were none to be found.  I just need to start saving and buy it in Myer where I spotted the bigger version of this.  Love it!

Balenciaga L’Essence Eau De Parfum

Everything about this screams ‘luxe’.  But I would expect nothing less because it is Balenciaga (J’adore their handbags!) and hence its price tag of $145 AUD for 50ml.  Because it is EDP, I don’t need to douse myself with it but just a light-handed spritz inside my wrists and behind my ears (the pulse points) and I’m done.  The scent needs time to settle into my skin and it only comes alive about 15-20 minutes after application.  It’s strange how some perfumes do that!  It’s a sensual and womanly scent with a slight hint of floral (the press release says it is violet leaves) and that’s why I mainly use it during the evenings.

What is your current signature scent?

Australia BB Cream Reviews

At the time of writing, Australia has welcomed 2 BB creams into the market – Biotherm White D-Tox Translu.Cell BB Cream SPF 25 and Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-In-One BB Cream.  (For ease of writing, I shall refer to them as Biotherm and Garnier BB Creams instead of their long-winded names!)  I have been a big fan of BB creams for a long long time so I was delighted when I got my hands on both BB creams to test out.  (FYI, I got a free sample and I won a giveaway.)

What Is BB Cream?

BB cream is short for blemish balm and originates from Germany, even though it is highly popular in Asia.  It claims to heal skin and prevents wrinkles from its SPF content.  It’s not a tinted moisturiser because it is much thicker in texture.  I’ve been using BB creams for years now and I don’t see any healing on my scars, but I like Asian BB creams because it gives great coverage with high SPF and the shades can be a bit off but they blend very well.

Difference Between Asian BB Creams And The Aussie BB Creams

I think it’s important to establish that they are different.  Aussie BB Creams are thinner in texture, contain less SPF and more creamy than balmy.  I don’t know if that makes sense but it makes sense to me!  But saying that, I’m really loving the Australian BB creams!!  Let’s check them out…

Australia BB Cream

Biotherm BB Cream

Admittedly, I only have tiny samples of this – but a little goes a long way!  The shade is definitely too white on my skin but it blends out really well and keeps my face moisturised and shine-free.  In fact, I took one of these samples and used it at the ABBW and I used it for 3 days straight with no problems at all.  But I’ll be honest and say that I won’t repurchase unless there is a shade closer to my NC-30 skin.

Available from Adore Beauty for $49 AUD.

Garnier BB Cream

This product has been getting rave reviews from all over!  And I can see why!  It smells great, provides fantastic flawless coverage and requires little effort in blending because it glides on smoothly.  It’s closer to a tinted moisturiser than the Asian BB creams.

It comes in 2 shades – Light and Medium – but that’s the problem.  I am neither Light nor Medium – but thank God I won both of these from a giveaway because when mixed together, it is a perfect shade match!  In fact, I used it this morning to go to the hairdressers and I thought my skin looked really good seeing as I had to look at myself in the mirror for 2.5 hours at the salon.  The only downside is the lack of SPF with its measly 15 rating.  Pah!  If only Australian BB creams had extra oomph in SPF like the Asian BB creams.  Nevertheless, I can see myself repurchasing these highly affordable drugstore BB creams.

Available in drugstores and supermarkets around $15 AUD.
