iSwatch : Chanel CC Cream

iSwatch is basically swatches of beauty products taken with my iPhone – see what I did there?  *winks*  The photos won’t be the best quality and there won’t be in-depth product reviews but it will just be swatches and basic product info.  Today’s iSwatch is the Chanel CC Cream which I swatched in Hong Kong – specifically, the Chanel store in Sha Tin.  What is CC cream you ask?  If you have time, read this.

In short, this is Chanel’s definition of CC Cream  – an ideal cream for day-long confidence with a lightweight, non-oily, comfortable texture which delivers complete correction and natural-looking, long-wear makeup.

Outfit Of The Day : Chanel Wannabe

Chanel pink handbag, coral lipstick

What’s going on?  A second Outfit Of The Day (OOTD) blog post this week – that’s what’s going on!  LOL.

Of course I’d love a Chanel handbag.  Who wouldn’t??  Sadly, I have to make do with a Chanel-inspired handbag till a real one comes along.  I bought this salmon pink Chanel wannabe in Hong Kong at a mere sliver of the price of the real thing.  And before anyone asks, it is not a “fake” Chanel – it doesn’t have a “fake” designer label inside.  It is what it is.

The lippie is Oceanus from the Ciccone Cosmetics lipstick collection.  A girlfriend complimented my lips the day I wore this out.  Another girlfriend complimented my shoe choice.  They are wedged gold strappy Gladiator-like sandals that I bought in Sydney.  And in typical Ling fashion, I threw on random pieces of clothing and hoped for the best.  Check out the rest of my outfit.

Yellow Lemming

I have immersed myself into the beauty blogging world for a few months now and it’s interesting to realise that beauty bloggers have coined terms such as “holy grail” (describing a must-have product) and “MLBB” (my lips but better to describe a lip product).  Today I am going to introduce the word “lemming” into The Best Beauty Blog.

From the Urban Dictionary :

A lemming refers to a purchase/wished-for-item which results from reading an enthusiastic post about a new fabulous product. Overcome by compulsion, readers follow like lemmings diving off a cliff.

I am not exactly sure how to use this term, so please excuse me if I fail badly.  I mean, is it “lemming for” or “lemming after” or “lemming on” or is “lemming” a noun??  I digress…

I am lemming Chanel Mimosa.  I love the colour yellow – hence my yellow VW Polo car (which is sitting unloved in my parents house…in Scotland!) – but I don’t really suit the colour yellow because I have a yellow-y skintone.

Anyway, I have 2 yellow nail polishes in my collection – Nicole by OPI Yellow It’s Me and FACE OF AUSTRALIA Luxe Lemon Sorbet – (both yellow nail polishes were provided by PRs).  Don’t they look simply fabulous in their bottles!

But I don’t even look good with yellow nail polish…so why am I lemming after Chanel Mimosa??  I want something which clearly will not suit me but I want it just because.  Is there a term to describe my condition??

Do you have a lemming for something?

Confessions Of A Hoarderholic

Foreword

I know it sounds cliché but it is a real honour to have the opportunity to write a guest post on this occasion. Although, having said that, I would not count myself as a true fashionista or a talented writer. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the read as I unfold to you a list of pretty little items which I have happily hoarded in my wardrobe. Before, I start to babble, I would like to thank Ling for this special invite and for her carefully thought out questions…

In terms of fashion, what are the classics every girl should have?

If there is any other alternative name I could think of, I would have opted for an unredeemable Bag-aholic. That would be appropriate, considering that I have a particular affinity for bags, from top handle bags to shoulder bags to clutches. It is hard to say what sort of classic things every girl should have but for me, if I can only own ONE handbag, I would go for a Chanel Classic Flap. (Actually, I’m lying…I want a Birkin instead). No, really, Chanel Classic Flap is as CLASSIC as one can get. It’s such an elegant bag, easily matched to an evening dress, dressed down in denim or combined with a feminine Parisian outfit.

Worn with denim jacket from New Look, denim skirt from Internacionale, pink top from Debenhams

The above photo is of a super cute Chanel baby flap, dressed down with casual denim.  The bad is so freaking cute but totally impractical as I can only just about fit my mobile phone.

The other classic items to have are jackets! These are my fashion staple. They are so versatile, I could just about wear them to death. In fact, jackets are the easiest way to look good in seconds and they don’t even have to be designer made!

I need to add that if you live in an everlasting cold place like Scotland, you need a good coat, preferably thick, warm and well fitted.

One of my favourite coats - vintage Christian Dior royal blue coat - perfectly warm, stunning colour and well tailored cut

Do clothes have to be expensive and classy to carry a designer handbag?

Absolutely NOT. I strongly believe in the power of mix and match. In fact, 90% of my wardrobe items are of non-designer origin and they look great (at least I hope and think that they do). Friends who are familiar with my shopping habits know that beside my obsession for Chanel, I am also a big fan of UK high street labels like Primark, H&M, Zara and New Look.

Designer bags like Louis Vuitton can go well with non-designer clothes as shown here.

How do you take care of your designer heels?

I used to be awkward in high heels. Now, the situation is entirely the opposite. I love heels and they instantly lifts up my mood. Wearing them often means that the poor pairs are subjected to more wear and tear. To maintain them, I always store them in their original boxes and dust bags. If the soles are worn, I get them resoled. If the heels need re-heeled, then do so. If I am planning to do a fair bit of walking on the streets prior to an event, I usually bring along a pair of ballerinas, rather than walking in stilettos.

What are your tips on finding the perfect lippy shade?

For me, finding a perfect lippy is like playing with Russian roulette. I suppose finding the correct lip shade depends on personal preference and liking. Personally, I like natural tones. Certain brands like Dior and Chanel often hold beauty events which involve beauty makeovers, introducing new items and makeup tips. Beauty advisors are great at recommending shades suitable for a specific skin tone.

Do you have any beauty secrets you want to share?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. When I am dehydrated, I look haggard.

I swear by Hydramax range by Chanel and water to keep my face supple and moisturised.

Recently, I discovered Confessions of a Concealaholic by Benefit (lol, guess where I got my inspiration for the blog title). It’s THE BEST beauty investment I have ever made and I am now into my second set. I now use it every day. It is perfect for travelling too and speeds up my makeup time. In fact, I now use this, mascara and lipgloss and hey, I’m ready to go.
