Tried & Tested Trio : Face Cleansers

pod liquid detox cleanser, Mary Kay Botanical Effects cleanser, Dr Lewinn's Glycolic Acid Cleanser

I go through face cleansers as if I have ten faces instead of one!  Maybe I just have a REALLY BIG pancake face?!!!  I double cleanse which means that I use a cleansing oil beforehand to remove any residues of make-up and sunscreen and then I use a cleanser.  The following are 3 lucky face cleansers which had the pleasure of cleansing my face for the past few months.

(Psst :  I have dry sensitive skin so I had to whisper “Please be gentle” to the cleansers before I cracked them open to use.  No, seriously, I did! :P)

Konnichiwa Mon Shu! Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O Advanced Formula

Mon Shu girl, Mon Shu Cleansing oil, Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O Advanced Formula

Konnichiwa!  It means “Hello” in Japanese!

Karl Lagerfeld is one busy man!  Not only is he known for luxe labels, Chanel and Fendi, but amongst his many projects, he also collaborated with high street label H&M a few years ago – I remember browsing through the collection but nothing took my fancy.  Fast forward a few years and BAM!  Karl Lagerfeld has caught my attention once again because he collaborated with possibly my most favourite beauty brand in the world, Shu Uemura.  Pictured above is the Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O Advanced Formula.  Mon Shu Girl is the face of the Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura Collection and personally, I think she is CREEPY CUTE!

Current Skincare : Morning & Night Cleansers

Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Gel Wash, Be in Awe Gentle Cleaner, skincare blog, beauty reviews

It should come as no surprise that I use different skincare products in the morning and at night.  Today I am going to share with you the current facial cleansers that I have been using.

Morning Cleanser : Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Gel Wash

This lime-green gel-based cleanser is a delight to use because I LOVE the smell!!!  It smells of green tea; very similar to the Elizabeth Arden Green Tea EDT that I love.  It is just so refreshing in the mornings!  I am a tea addict and this is a great fix without ingesting caffeine!

I don’t ask for much for a morning cleanser – just as long as it’s gentle on my skin and leaves it feeling ready to take on the day.  Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Gel Wash does this well – but my only gripe is the dispensing lid which gets clogged up easily with dried-up cleansing gel.

I believe Cellnique is a brand based in Malaysia so it isn’t readily available in Australia.  There is a price tag on the bottle at RM 119.00 and this was sent to me by PR.  For more details, head to

Evening Cleanser : Be In Awe Vimala Gentle Cleanser

Avid readers may recognise this brand from a previous post I did with a mini interview with the Be In Awe founder, Rebecca Powne.  I was delighted to be sent another Be In Awe product to use and this Vimala Gentle Cleanser has not left my bathroom since I started using it.

I love Be In Awe Vimala Gentle Cleanser because it’s free from a lot of nasties – SLS, parabens and harsh chemicals.  This also contains green tea, but sadly, it doesn’t have the green tea smell that I love.

It is great to use after a long day and leaves skin feeling lovely and soft; there is no tight feeling if I don’t apply my serums and moisturisers straightaway.  An added benefit is that I can use it around my delicate eye area without any stinging whatsoever.

Be In Awe is an Australian brand so it isn’t readily available for my international readers.  The cleanser has an RRP of $39.90 and for stockists and more information, please head to

Skin Virtue Pure Nourish Cleanse Super Nourishing Cream Cleanser

The bitter cold Winter nights in Melbourne combined with the ducted heating at home have been causing havoc to my skin.  I have had to change my entire skincare routine to suit these harsher times.  Oh, how I envy the rest of the world who are basking in sunshine…  Anyway, I was eyeing up which cleanser to use next when the good people at Skin Virtue sent me a couple of products from their Pure Anti-Age range to review – Skin Virtue Pure Nourish Cleanse Super Nourishing Cream Cleanser and Pure Line Repair Advanced Eye Renewal Complex (which will be reviewed at a later date).

Don’t be alarmed if you have never heard of Skin Virtue before because it is new to the Australian market but it has been around in Italy for decades as it was developed and produced there.

Ms Nina Gajic, CEO of Skin Virtue states “Our high quality standards and effectiveness have set the stage for Skin Virtue to become a trustworthy brand. I am delighted to launch the products here in Australia designed to target the modern, sophisticated women who’s skin care regime is an active part of her lifestyle.”

My Opinions

First of all, it’s not a deal-breaker but is there any need for the extra-long name?  I can barely even remember what I did yesterday let alone a super-duper-long name for this cleanser.  Look at the packaging and you will see that its FULL name is Skin Virtue The Art Of Dermatology Sydney Pure Nourish Cleanse Super Nourishing Cream Cleanser.  See what I mean?  I wish they had kept the name simple like the packaging – simple, elegant and sleek.

I have dry sensitive skin so cream cleansers are ideal for me as they are effective but gentle and do not strip my face of essential oils.  I am pleased to announce that my skin has fallen in love with Skin Virtue Pure Nourish Cleanse Super Nourishing Cream Cleanser.  I was blown away the first time I tried this product.

This is how I use it :  Wet face, squirt 2 pumps onto fingertips and apply in circular motions all around face and neck region and proceed to rinse off with a flannel soaked in warm tepid water.

My face feels soft, smooth and plump after using this Skin Virtue cream cleanser.  I couldn’t stop touching my face the first time I used it.  There are a few active ingredients in the cleanser but I am not a scientist so I have no idea which one is doing magic on my skin…or maybe they all work together in synergy to produce the plumping effect.  Whatever it is, I love it!!

Likes Simple and sleek packaging, non-scented creamy texture, instant plumping results, makes my skin feel soft and supple
Dislikes Super-duper-long name

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash

Eeks, the pink packaging curse strikes again!  Yes, dear readers, I tend to buy random packaged-in-pink products, e.g. pink-bottled hairspray, pink box of facial hair remover.  What did I buy this time?  Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash

Neutrogena facial wash, Neutrogena Visiblt Clear, pink grapefruit

Product Description

An uplifting daily facial cleanser for clear, fresh and healthy-looking skin everyday.  With powerful Microclear technology, the formula cleanses deeply to help eliminate spots and blackheads.  The refreshing gel gently purifies the skin without overdrying while a wave of pink grapefruit uplifts the senses with a burst of invigorating freshness.

My Opinions

  • OMG!  It smells so good!  It really does smell like pink grapefruit.
  • I use it to cleanse my face in the mornings and I feel refreshed afterwards.
  • Kind to my dry skin and doesn’t make it feel tight.
  • Haven’t had blackheads for a while so this may be the reason why – yay!

It’s pink and it smells good, what more could a girl ask for from Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash?  Lovely jubbly 9 out of 10.
