Wink like a Minx with Katy Perry Lashes created by Eylure

Recently, I told you all that I wanted to achieve 3 things in August and one of my aims was to learn to wink like a minx.  Dear ladies, I am proud to say that I am on the brink of achieving this goal thanks to Katy Perry.

Source : KatyPerryForum.com

No, no, no!  Even though I have a girl crush on her, this isn’t the type of wink I aspire to… Sorry Katy! 😛

Instead I am loving the Katy Perry Lashes created by Eylure!  These falsies are wonderful in assisting my desire to wink like a minx!  Thank you Eylure for sending me these delights!

There are currently 4 sets in the Katy Perry Lashes collection :-

Katy Perry false eyelashes, Katy Perry and Eylure

Cool Kitty :  Thick, voluminous lashes perfect for a night out paired with a sexy smokey eye.
Sweetie Pie :  Subtle everyday lashes suitable for the unfortunate girl blessed with short stubby lashes, i.e. ME!
Oh, Honey! :  Subtle with the extra curl, which would be ideal for a first date, perhaps?
Oh, My! :  Full-on glamour, almost drag queen-esque!

The lashes are great quality and the band flex beautifully to fit around my wonky Asian eyes.

Katy Perry false eyelashes Each set comes with a small vial of eyelash glue which held up the lashes pretty well.  (I trialled it for a solid 6 hours wearing the Oh My! lashes and it didn’t drop at all!)  Perfect size to pop in your handbag if you’re wearing falsies outside the house (unlike good old guinea pig me who sat around the house with them on!)

Some girls find it difficult to apply lashes and I used to be the same until I learned {the secret} and it’s almost a breeze for me now.  BUT…there’s always a but!  How on earth do girls recycle falsies???!!!  I have NEVER been able to get the gunky glue off the band EVER and I usually wear them once and chuck them out.  If anyone knows what to do, please kindly share!!!

Anyway, wanna see how the lashes looked on me?  My eye did some cam-whoring whilst I trialled Cool Kitty and Oh My!
(psst – in the photo on the top with my enlarged eye, you can see my brand spanking new Canon DSLR!!  You like? :P)

You must agree that I “look” like I can wink like a minx right?  Now I just need to practise winking!!!

Mink Lash Extensions From Lash Me

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by the lovely Katrina Beckett, owner of Lash Me, to see if I would like to trial a full set of mink fur lash extensions.  Considering I have short stubby Asian lashes, you would have assumed that I would have jumped at the chance…but I didn’t.  In fact, I was very apprehensive because I have had eyelash extensions before back in 2005(?) and it was the worst experience ever because due to a combination of factors (possible allergy to latex in glue, heavy weight of synthetic lashes, unhelpful beauty attendant), all my lashes were ripped off and I looked weird for weeks without eyelashes!!

However, Katrina reassured me that there was no latex in the glue and mink fur is a lot lighter and gentler to natural lashes; so before you knew it, I was lying down chit-chatting away to Katrina and Hannah whilst mink fur was being expertly applied to my lashes.

Look at the difference!  My natural lashes are almost non-existent!!

I was absolutely delighted to see the results.  The length and volume of the lashes are just perfect and they look so natural.  And best of all, it’s been over a week and I have had no issues with the mink fur nor the glue whatsoever.

I have been getting compliments left, right and centre!!!  Having long luscious lashes has made me look more awake and I feel extra sexy to the point where I may be talking to you like a normal person but I’m batting my eyelashes to the beat of “I’m sexy and I know it.  Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, yeah!”

However, there a few downsides to having eyelash extensions :-

  • I have had no problems with wearing eye make-up (water-based mascara can be used but I didn’t think it was necessary) but removal is just a little bit more tedious as I need to use a Q-tip to remove eyeliner carefully around my lashline.
  • Face-planting into a pillow is out of the question because it would totally crush my lash extensions so I have had to adjust my sleeping position.
  • And I really miss rubbing my eyes!!!

But the positives outweigh the negatives and it’s worth it just to have long luscious lashes 😛

At the time of writing, I have only had them for around 10 days so I don’t really know how long they will last me.  A few lashes have fallen out here and there but they still look great.  If the fall-out starts to become uneven (e.g. when the lashes on the right side look longer than the left side), it’s reassuring to know that I have options to either get in-fills or get them removed altogether.

If you’re looking to have eyelash extensions in Melbourne, I highly recommend Lash Me which is situated in 6 Inkerman Street, St Kilda, Melbourne VIC 3182.  A full set of mink fur eyelash extensions cost $170 AUD at Lash Me.  There are also salons in Queensland.  For all the lowdown, head to http://www.lashme.com.au

The Secret To Applying False Eyelashes Is To Practice

Even with the best mascara in the world, there’s a limit to what it can achieve for my short stubby Asian lashes.  I’ve had eyelash extensions before and they were disastrous so I will never EVER get them done again because they pulled out all my lashes!!  As for false lashes, I never liked them either because it was so hard to stick them on…until I discovered the secret…

The secret to applying false eyelashes is to practice, practice, practice!  This is my method :-

1.  Measure the lash strip to suit your eye and trim the inner corner, if necessary
2.  Flex the band a few times as it makes it easier to shape according to your lash line and it’s more comfortable to wear
3.  Apply eyelash glue along the strip and wait…wait…wait…
4.  When the glue is slightly tacky, place it as close to your lash line as possible

I was given these glam faux lashes by the respective brands and I have no idea what look I can do with them.  Any ideas?

1.  Illamasqua Grandeur False Eye Lashes are from the Theatre of the Nameless collection.  They are sexy, flirtatious, fluttery lashes.

2.  1000 Hour Evening Lashes #572 Flagrant Glitz have little sparkles on lashes.

Please give me suggestions on what looks I can do with these lashes.  Where would you wear them?  And I’m too old to hit the clubs!!

KKCenterHK Fake Eyelashes

KKCenterHK is a Hong Kong-based website which sells fake eyelashes, wigs and eye make-up at very competitive prices.  They kindly sent me two pairs of fake eyelashes for review on The Best Beauty Blog – an upper and lower set of false lashes.

ES HandMade Natural And Lengthening Eyelashes (ES A133)

KKCenterHK upper lashes

Wearing KKCenterHK eyelashes

  • Comes in a box of 10 pairs of lashes for an affordable $9.34USD
  • Lashes were relatively easy to apply as the bands were flexible so can be easily moulded to any eye shape
  • Impressive thick luscious lashes

KKCenterHK upper lashes

  • Must trim off the ends before application
  • The website says that lashes can be reused if you “take them off carefully”  – but in my experience, I felt that these lashes were more for single use as they weren’t capable to withstand being reused

ES Brand Clear Band Half-Densely Lower Lashes (ES A023)

KKCenterHK lower eyelashes

Wearing KKCenterHK fake eyelash set

  • Comes in a box of 10 pairs for an affordable $7.78USD
  • Good for those with non-existent lower lashes (that’s me!)
  • Loved the clear band as a black band would be trickier to apply on the lower lash line

KKCenterHK lower lashes

  • Again, must trim off the ends before application
  • As it was my first time wearing fake lower lashes, I thought I looked somewhat creepy…almost like a porcelain doll from a horror movie!!

KKCentreHK fake lash set

The photos were taken without any make-up to show them in their natural states.  I think they will look even better once incorporated with eye make-up.  I will do a FOTD with them in the future.

KKCenterHK have a large range of false eyelashes for all occasions at very affordable prices.  I would definitely recommend that you check out their website if you are a frequent wearer of falsies.  But please do bear in mind that shipping may take slightly longer as they are based in Hong Kong.  I’ve seen a few wigs that I might want to get – just for fun!

When I was single, I used my eyes to flirt a lot.  I had the sparkling big eyes lined with the sexy kitten flick and I would flutter my long luscious lashes to capture the attention of my victim.  Okay, that’s not entiiiirely true…  I have short stubby Asian lashes so when I bat and fluttered my lashes, I looked as if I had something in my eye!  LOL.  Anyway, if you have been naturally blessed with short lashes like me, then hakuna matata – don’t worry – because we can always fake it with false eyelashes.  Who do I go to for my faux lashes?  ARDELL lashes.

About ARDELL (taken from their website)

ARDELL has become the world’s leading brand in faux eyelashes because it has stayed true to its mission in wanting to give women a way to have beautiful, unforgettable eyes.

ARDELL offers several lash styles to fit a consumer’s mood, personality and lifestyle. They have become must-have, preferred beauty enhancers for millions of women, including makeup artists and Hollywood A-listers. When women everywhere want to feel confident that their eyes have a total look that’s alluring and the ultimate in beauty, they turn to ARDELL Eyelashes and enjoy the compliments.

I was sent 4 sets of ARDELL strip lashes to review on The Best Beauty Blog.

  • These ARDELL lashes were my favourite out of the 4 sets.  They had an invisible band with varying thickness of lashes gradually getting longer at the outer corner of the eye and a sexy flirty curl.
  • Dramatic yet natural at the same time.
  • I felt like a sex kitten wearing them!!  Purrrrr!!!

  • These would be my every-day fake lashes.
  • They were of an every-day length – not too long, not too short
  • I’m sure if I wore these every day, people would think they were my real lashes…sigh, if only it were true…
My Opinions On ARDELL Lashes

At first, I was a bit iffy about ARDELL strip lashes as they are made from sterilised 100% human hair.  It just sounded a bit icky, but I soon forgot about that when I realised how natural they looked on my eyes and how ARDELL lashes blended in with my own short stubby ones.

I also liked the fact that the bands on the lashes were not rigid and had some flexibility – which made it easier to apply and very adaptable to different eye shapes.  The lashes are also reusable when removed carefully after use.  However, I wish the lashes came in a clear plastic case for easy storage reasons.

ARDELL lashes do not have lash glue provided.  They recommend LashGrip Eyelash Adhesive.  I was not sent this lash glue for review – but I just used my own lash glue.

The quality of ARDELL lashes are excellent at a very reasonable price.  I definitely recommend them.  There is a wide range of ARDELL lashes for all occasions.  For more information, please check out their website.

Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive

I put on false eyelashes the other day for my Black Swan Meets Burlesque outfit.  The lash glue I used was the glue-tastic Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive and I was mightily impressed.

Revlon, Revlon lash adhesive

Product Description

Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive helps you to achieve a mess-free application of your Revlon lashes. The ultra thin brush applies the clear, waterproof formula with ease, leaving lashes looking beautiful and natural.

Usually, I have a difficult time trying to glue on false lashes.  But for some reason, I managed this easily – perhaps it’s from watching YouTube make-up tutorials or maybe because I used this Revlon lash glue instead of the tiny squeezy tube of glue which fake eyelashes usually come with.

Anyway, I painted the glue onto the lash strip and voila!  Pretty long lashes huh?  I fluttered the entire day away and didn’t have to re-glue the lashes on.  Taking the lashes off was easy and did not pull away my delicate skin around the eyes.  I am awarding Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive a mighty 10 out of 10.  I’m gonna start wearing fake lashes more often now!
