Guest Post : Review Of TK’s Lashes

In case you haven’t heard, I am currently on my way to Hong Kong and I will be deciding where to shop and eat when I get off the plane!  YAY!  I put a call out for anyone wanting to guest post as I didn’t want the blog to get neglected and unloved while I was away and Rachel kindly offered.  Enjoy…

Like Ling, I am a complete make-up minx. I can spend hours in make-up departments opening, smelling and trying on every tester.  I love the scents, packaging and dreams associated with this department and I am always on the look out for something new and different.

This week I hit gold while my 8yo daughter was having her hair cut at a local hair and beauty salon.  My 6yo daughter and I slowly slunk over to the shiny, colourful make-up stand.  Standing up right, taking centre stage of the stand was a small but powerful black box – TK’s Lashes.

The brochure beside this box made promises.  Surely, it couldn’t follow through with the promise of making lashes up to 300% longer.  I cannot resist a challenge.  I was going to test and scoff at this and I was going to use my innocent little 6 year old as my guinea pig to do it.  Feeling like I was participating in an episode of Myth Busters, I opened the black box and inside were two tubes.  First you use the larger gel tube to brush onto the lashes. Then you use the smaller tube to brush on the fibres, then set again with the gel brush.  Seriously, UNBELIEVABLE results.  My daughter looked like the cutest little drag queen with her lovely, long lashes.

Now, I love mascara and I use it daily.   For special occasions I use to get the individual lashes put on.  Recently I discovered lash extensions and I love them, but can’t afford to keep them permanently.  The TK’s Lashes are something else.  They truly do make your lashes look ridiculously long, but still natural and you can wash them off.  I think this is a must have in any make-up stash.

You can’t get these everywhere, I purchased mine from Beautiful You Hair and Beauty in Margate you can buy them online for $79. There are a few other supplies around Australia and New Zealand and you can find them on the TK’s Lashes website.

Guest Review On boa Relaxing Bath Milk

A while ago, Botanics Of Australia sent me a generous package (you may remember, I reviewed their face mask, shower cream and face cream) and in amongst the loot was boa Relaxing Bath Milk With Tasmianian Blue Gum Honey.  I couldn’t use it (find out why later) so I handed it to my fab girl-friend Minda who is a BBC (British Born Chinese) like me, living life in Melbourne.  She’s a food blogger and at the time of writing, her blog is ranked #16 in the urbanspoon Victoria leaderboard.  Woop woop!

Confessions Of A Hoarderholic

I know it sounds cliché but it is a real honour to have the opportunity to write a guest post on this occasion. Although, having said that, I would not count myself as a true fashionista or a talented writer. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the read as I unfold to you a list of pretty little items which I have happily hoarded in my wardrobe. Before, I start to babble, I would like to thank Ling for this special invite and for her carefully thought out questions…

In terms of fashion, what are the classics every girl should have?

If there is any other alternative name I could think of, I would have opted for an unredeemable Bag-aholic. That would be appropriate, considering that I have a particular affinity for bags, from top handle bags to shoulder bags to clutches. It is hard to say what sort of classic things every girl should have but for me, if I can only own ONE handbag, I would go for a Chanel Classic Flap. (Actually, I’m lying…I want a Birkin instead). No, really, Chanel Classic Flap is as CLASSIC as one can get. It’s such an elegant bag, easily matched to an evening dress, dressed down in denim or combined with a feminine Parisian outfit.

Worn with denim jacket from New Look, denim skirt from Internacionale, pink top from Debenhams

The above photo is of a super cute Chanel baby flap, dressed down with casual denim.  The bad is so freaking cute but totally impractical as I can only just about fit my mobile phone.

The other classic items to have are jackets! These are my fashion staple. They are so versatile, I could just about wear them to death. In fact, jackets are the easiest way to look good in seconds and they don’t even have to be designer made!

I need to add that if you live in an everlasting cold place like Scotland, you need a good coat, preferably thick, warm and well fitted.

One of my favourite coats - vintage Christian Dior royal blue coat - perfectly warm, stunning colour and well tailored cut

Do clothes have to be expensive and classy to carry a designer handbag?

Absolutely NOT. I strongly believe in the power of mix and match. In fact, 90% of my wardrobe items are of non-designer origin and they look great (at least I hope and think that they do). Friends who are familiar with my shopping habits know that beside my obsession for Chanel, I am also a big fan of UK high street labels like Primark, H&M, Zara and New Look.

Designer bags like Louis Vuitton can go well with non-designer clothes as shown here.

How do you take care of your designer heels?

I used to be awkward in high heels. Now, the situation is entirely the opposite. I love heels and they instantly lifts up my mood. Wearing them often means that the poor pairs are subjected to more wear and tear. To maintain them, I always store them in their original boxes and dust bags. If the soles are worn, I get them resoled. If the heels need re-heeled, then do so. If I am planning to do a fair bit of walking on the streets prior to an event, I usually bring along a pair of ballerinas, rather than walking in stilettos.

What are your tips on finding the perfect lippy shade?

For me, finding a perfect lippy is like playing with Russian roulette. I suppose finding the correct lip shade depends on personal preference and liking. Personally, I like natural tones. Certain brands like Dior and Chanel often hold beauty events which involve beauty makeovers, introducing new items and makeup tips. Beauty advisors are great at recommending shades suitable for a specific skin tone.

Do you have any beauty secrets you want to share?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. When I am dehydrated, I look haggard.

I swear by Hydramax range by Chanel and water to keep my face supple and moisturised.

Recently, I discovered Confessions of a Concealaholic by Benefit (lol, guess where I got my inspiration for the blog title). It’s THE BEST beauty investment I have ever made and I am now into my second set. I now use it every day. It is perfect for travelling too and speeds up my makeup time. In fact, I now use this, mascara and lipgloss and hey, I’m ready to go.
