Olay Complete Care Touch Of Foundation Even Complexion Day Cream

Olay, Max Factor, BB Cream, Garnier BB Cream, foundation

Skincare brand Olay has teamed up with cosmetics brand Max Factor to bring us Olay Complete Care Touch Of Foundation Even Complexion Day Cream – a moisturiser with a touch of Max Factor foundation.  When the press release arrived in my inbox, I was  highly intrigued by this hybrid product and was keen to review this.  A few days later, a PR sample in the Medium shade made its way onto my front door and then onto my light box and then onto my arm and then onto my face – that is the journey of a beauty product when it meets a beauty blogger!  Anyway, enough rambling and onto my review and swatches…

Identity Crisis?

First of all, I was rather confused.  I was glad to see that they hadn’t jumped onto the “I’m a BB Cream But I’m Actually More Of A Tinted Moisturiser” bandwagon (*cough the Aussie Garnier  BB Cream cough*) but at the same time, I wondered why they didn’t call it a tinted moisturiser.  Instead, the usage of the name Olay Complete Care Touch Of Foundation Even Complexion Day Cream is very long-winded and requires too much brain energy to understand what the product is all about.  For convenience, I have renamed this Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream.  There you go!  So much easier!

My Thoughts

The packaging isn’t fancy schmancy but yay for the pump dispenser.

As soon as I applied some Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream onto the back of my hand and gently rubbed it, I knew I had felt the exact same creamy texture before – from the Aussie Garnier BB Cream!  They don’t have the same smell, but the texture and the sheer coverage are so similar.  Both also have SPF 15!

Sadly, the Medium shade of Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream was too dark for my NC-30 complexion; but I did wear this around the house and it didn’t make my face feel heavy nor greasy.

As for the moisturising function of Olay, I cannot fault them as I simply adore Olay moisturisers especially from the White Radiance and Regenerist ranges.  My face has gone through many jars!

In Conclusion

Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream is great for ladies who are looking for a 2-in-1 product to save time in the mornings and who are looking for something light and sheer for their face to even out their complexion without having to go down the full-on foundation route.  Hunting down the right shade may be a tad more difficult though as it only comes in Fair and Medium.

Do you wear foundation every day?  Or are you a BB cream lover?

Wedding Make-Up

Royal Wedding

Millions of people had Royal Wedding Fever yesterday for William and Kate’s wedding.  I was out having dinner with friends so I was unable to watch the ceremony – I was dying to see photos of Kate and thank God for social media.  Friends from Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp sent me photos – thank you peeps.  Anyway, I thought Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, looked amazing!  Apparently, she did her own wedding make-up and I thought she did an excellent job.

Would you do your own wedding make-up?  Or would you hire a professional make-up artist?  I did both!!

Well, I got married last year with two weddings.  We signed the wedding register in Melbourne in June and then in August, we had the full-on church ceremony in Scotland.  For the Melbourne wedding, my sister and I did my wedding make-up and for the Scotland wedding, a professional Asian bridal make-up artist did it for me.

DIY Wedding Make-Up

Due to financial constraints, I had to buy affordable make-up products (i.e. no high end items) and I had to force my sister to help me apply it.  For my wedding make-up, I wanted a natural, radiant, classic look.  The Hubby prefers me looking au naturale, so I didn’t want to look like a clown so I made sure that the make-up was subtle, yet it would enhance my features for the photos.

We didn’t do a proper make-up trial because I was just going to put on my everyday enhanced but natural face on.  I did test the mascara – L’Oreal Paris Double Extension Renewal Serum Inside – to ensure that it would not run if I started crying – it did not budge!  I LOVE this mascara!

On the wedding day, there was a minor mishap and I had a Bridezilla hissy fit in the morning when my right fake eyelash refused to stick on – this is partly my fault as I was very emotional and I cried my eyes out when I Skyped my parents and my 5 other siblings (who were in Scotland and couldn’t fly to Australia).  Basically, tears and eyelash glue do not mix!  Crying also wrecked my face so we had to keep re-applying!

Anyway, here are all the products (except those stupid fake eyelashes) I used to do my own wedding make-up :

wedding, make-up

1.  Shu Uemura UV Under Base
2.  Rimmel London Lasting Finish Minerals Loose Powder Foundation in 100 Ivory
3.  Shu Uemura Mark Cealer in 7YR Medium
4. Natural Collection Blushed Cheeks in Sugar Plum
5.  NP Set Eye Primer
6.  Taupe, Beige and Cream shades from a $5 eyeshadow palette
7.  Naris Up Wink Up Lasting Gel Liner in Black
8.  L’Oreal Paris Double Extension Renewal Serum Inside Mascara
9.  Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick in 839 Maple
10. Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF15 in 10 Air Kiss
11. Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
12.  Mixture of Red Earth make-up brushes
13.  Bourjois So Laque! in 13 Rose Lounge
14.  Bourjois Fixant Brilliant Topcoat

What do you think?  Not bad if I say so myself!  Wish I had contoured my flat nose though!

Professional Wedding Make-Up

For my other wedding in Scotland, I went to 2 highly recommended professional make-up artists for trials – one was a Chinese lady trained to do Asian bridal make-up and the other was a Scottish lady trained to do Western make-up.  Here is what happened :-

1.  Asian MUA – She is the lady I usually go to for my facials which she is brilliant at.  As for makeup, it’s a bit hit and miss here.  She used mainly Babor cosmetics on me and did a great job contouring, but what I did not like is the white face and pink cheeks China doll look.  She also did my hair here and I was a bit iffy about it.

2.  Western MUA – Are you thinking what I was thinking???  I was thinking – “WTF?!”  My eyes look weird and wonky!  She used id minerals cosmetics on me.  I was not impressed.  The hair (done by her colleague) was also atrocious.  I did not ask for a quiff.  This hair and make-up trial was not cheap either.  Bleh!

After much deliberation, I went for the Asian MUA and told her exactly what I wanted – I did not want a white face!!

I look amazing!

In the end, I was happy with my make-up on the wedding day – I would have liked to have tweak some changes, but nevertheless, it was much better than the proposed make-up from the Western MUA.

If you are married, who did your wedding make-up and how did it turn out?  If you are not yet married, would you consider doing your own wedding make-up?  And what did you think of Kate’s make-up?

Max Factor Colour Perfection Lipstick In Azalea

Have I told you about my recent lipstick addiction?  I am saving up for a Chanel lippy, but meanwhile I am loving this Max Factor Colour Perfection lipstick in Azalea.

This Max Factor Colour Perfection lipstick glides onto lips evenly and does not bleed.  Stays on for 5 hours before re-application is needed.  The shade Azalea is a deep red with gold microshimmer.  I also love the sleek packaging of this lippy.

What are you wearing on your lips?

Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick

I’m not a lipstick virgin, but I’m still a newbie to the lipsticks.  I have been testing out a few drugstore lippies and the one I want to review today is Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick – in 839 Maple.  (EDIT :  I have now started a lipstick blog called Lip Stalker)

Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick

The reason I chose this shade is because I wanted an everyday lip colour which I could wear anywhere.  It’s pinkish with a slight sheen and blends in well with the normal shade of my lips.  What I particularly like about this Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick is that it does not dry out my lips but keeps them nicely moisturised.  There is no taste nor smell which is a MAJOR plus.

The lipstick swatch doesn’t really look that good in my photo – bleh!  I need to learn to take better photos.  Apologies.

Have you tried any Max Factor lipsticks?  What other lipsticks would you recommend?
