Skincare Review : Olay Aquaction

Olay Aquaction review, Olay Acquaction range

During my recent travels, when I landed in Scotland, it was (unsurprisingly) F-F-F-FREEZING.  My skin immediately felt the effects of the long flights, the plunging temperatures and gas central heating and it literally started cracking up!

I was like – WTF?  I have family and friends to catch up with who I haven’t seen for almost 4 years!!  WHY ME?!!  I can’t let them see me looking like a frumpy bum!!!

Luckily, the smart cookie inside me must have anticipated this because before I left Hong Kong to head to UK, I had picked up a few products from the Olay Aquaction range and they miraculously saved my skin and it was back to normal in a matter of days.

New Skincare Love : Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex

olay regenerist wrinkle revolution complex, olay regenerist review, olay regenerist wrinkle

Back in February, I received a press release announcing that Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex was the number one selling moisturiser in Australia AND it had just been crowned 2012 Product of the Year – Best Female Skincare Product.  Hello??!!  This blog isn’t called The Best Beauty Blog for no reason!  I have a calling (*snort*) to review The Best Beauty Products in the beauty market…and that’s how I got my hands on one of these babies.

First up, I am going to commend the packaging of Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex (or Olay Wrinkle Relaxing Cream as it is called in Asia).  I am a sucker for metallic shiny things and it reminds me of this SK-II cream that I love.  The airless pump dispenser gets a big tick in the box from me…but I guess the difficult part is gauging how much cream is left.  (It’s not a problem for me because I am a beauty hoarder blogger and I have gallons of moisturisers in my stash.)

olay wrinkle relaxing cream, anti-ageing super cream, olay anti-aging cream, olay anti-wrinkle cream

When I first tried Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex on my skin, it was like watching the Olympics!  The moisturiser glided on like a figure skating gold medalist and my skin did delightful somersaults in the air like an enthusiastic gymnast.  It was love.  4 weeks later, the Olympic torch for this love is still going strong!

I know Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex is a moisturiser, but it is too light for me, my dry skin and I.  So I consider Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex as an added boost before my ‘real moisturiser’…like a serum.  It’s beautiful because it’s light, sinks into skin easily and leaves a soft and smooth skin sensation – which is where I think it would perform well in ironing out fine lines and wrinkles.

Scent is a difficult thing for me to describe with words.  But there is a typical Olay scent which may smell fresh to some but overpowering to others.  If in doubt before purchasing, try and find a tester.

If I am going to nit-pick, the only thing that I did not particularly like about Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex is…wait for it…the name of the product.  I don’t know why but the names of Olay products don’t appeal to me.  I know I am in my EARLY thirties, but using a skincare product with “wrinkle” and “complex” in the name makes me feel like I HAVE a “complex about my wrinkles”!  There, I said it!  And I’m guessing that there are girls in their twenties who wouldn’t be too keen to try this product either based on its name alone.  (Proof : I have THREE sisters in their twenties and they all agree with me!)

Moving along…

There is nothing worse than hunting down a miracle skincare product you love which costs an arm and a leg per ml.  That is not a problem with Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex as it is affordable at AU$49.99 and comes in a healthy 50ml at your local Priceline and supermarkets.

Are you an Olay fan?  What skincare products do you love?  And is anyone else happy that it is Friday tomorrow?

Olay Complete Care Touch Of Foundation Even Complexion Day Cream

Olay, Max Factor, BB Cream, Garnier BB Cream, foundation

Skincare brand Olay has teamed up with cosmetics brand Max Factor to bring us Olay Complete Care Touch Of Foundation Even Complexion Day Cream – a moisturiser with a touch of Max Factor foundation.  When the press release arrived in my inbox, I was  highly intrigued by this hybrid product and was keen to review this.  A few days later, a PR sample in the Medium shade made its way onto my front door and then onto my light box and then onto my arm and then onto my face – that is the journey of a beauty product when it meets a beauty blogger!  Anyway, enough rambling and onto my review and swatches…

Identity Crisis?

First of all, I was rather confused.  I was glad to see that they hadn’t jumped onto the “I’m a BB Cream But I’m Actually More Of A Tinted Moisturiser” bandwagon (*cough the Aussie Garnier  BB Cream cough*) but at the same time, I wondered why they didn’t call it a tinted moisturiser.  Instead, the usage of the name Olay Complete Care Touch Of Foundation Even Complexion Day Cream is very long-winded and requires too much brain energy to understand what the product is all about.  For convenience, I have renamed this Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream.  There you go!  So much easier!

My Thoughts

The packaging isn’t fancy schmancy but yay for the pump dispenser.

As soon as I applied some Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream onto the back of my hand and gently rubbed it, I knew I had felt the exact same creamy texture before – from the Aussie Garnier BB Cream!  They don’t have the same smell, but the texture and the sheer coverage are so similar.  Both also have SPF 15!

Sadly, the Medium shade of Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream was too dark for my NC-30 complexion; but I did wear this around the house and it didn’t make my face feel heavy nor greasy.

As for the moisturising function of Olay, I cannot fault them as I simply adore Olay moisturisers especially from the White Radiance and Regenerist ranges.  My face has gone through many jars!

In Conclusion

Olay Touch Of Foundation Day Cream is great for ladies who are looking for a 2-in-1 product to save time in the mornings and who are looking for something light and sheer for their face to even out their complexion without having to go down the full-on foundation route.  Hunting down the right shade may be a tad more difficult though as it only comes in Fair and Medium.

Do you wear foundation every day?  Or are you a BB cream lover?

Olay White Radiance Protective Cream SPF 24

Although, summer in Melbourne is officially over, I still think it’s important to slap on SPF day cream because of harmful UV rays.  Plus sunlight triggers the formation of freckles and after moving to Australia from sun-deprived Scotland, my face is covered with those brown spots – GAH!!

The first time I bought Olay White Radiance Protective Cream SPF 24 was in Hong Kong.  And then I bought it again when I was in Malaysia.  For me to buy the same skincare products again, they must be fantastic!!  And it is!

Likes

  • SPF 24 gets a big thumbs up from me
  • Smells pleasant
  • Glides onto skin and does not leave a sticky nor oily film
  • Affordable

Dislikes

  • Product sold only in Asia (I think) – I haven’t seen it in UK nor Australia
  • Wish it would lighten existing freckles

Conclusion

Olay White Radiance Protective Cream SPF 24 is a fabulous day cream for all four seasons of the year – a highly recommended 9 out of 10!

Have you tried this before?  What did you think?  Do you have any recommendations for other day creams with high SPF?
