OPI

Go Matte Or Go Home!

rimmel matte bb cream, maybelline fitme matte stick foundation, maybelline bold matte lipstick, OPI Matte black nail polish

Before I gave birth, I envisaged Maternity Leave to be a time where I would successfully juggle a newborn baby with a lot of free time to do whatever I wanted.  I imagined me being one of those Mums who would get up bright and early, do some yoga, make some fabulous smoothie concoction in a hipster Mason jar (and Instagram it!) and drink it with a stripy straw, followed by Baby Time and when she napped, I would be able to carry on my day and do plenty of blogging and make plenty of clean-eating meals, blah blah blah.  It all seemed so easy…

Reality check – it has been the total opposite!!!  I just have NO free time!!!  Motherhood is hard work and I’m not afraid to say that some days are a struggle because it is so intense and full-on.  It is, by far, the most difficult thing I have ever encountered.  But at the same time, I love it soooo much and I feel immensely blessed.

Anyway, I am rattling on (not an easy feat typing with one hand as the other hand/arm is cuddling the baby) when I am supposed to be introducing you to the Matte beauty stash I have been loving lately…  Yes, I still have a bit of time for makeup.  I refuse to be a frumpy mummy so I am happy being a semi-yummy mummy hehe…

Beauty Bites Featuring Michelle Phan, Mary Kay & Spiderman

Welcome to another edition of Beauty Bites where I show you all bits ‘n’ bobs of my beauty-filled life 🙂

Michelle Phan, Michelle Phan in Melbourne Australia, Michelle Phan for Lancome

Michelle Phan in Melbourne :  I spent this Friday afternoon with THE Michelle Phan of YouTube beauty guru fame.  She was in Melbourne to do a Lancôme Makeup Masterclass event, but a bunch of Melbourne beauty bloggers and I got to meet her beforehand to chat about blogging.  I will admit that I had a major Phan-girl moment.  Anyway, I recorded some video footage so will probably post it up later on my YouTube channel (subscribe please!) and for more photos of her, I will be adding it to The Best Beauty Blog Facebook page later so keep your eyes peeled for that.  (Update : here’s the FB link)

High Tea with Mary Kay :  A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the Melbourne representatives of the beauty brand, Mary Kay to learn about their new Mary Kay Botanical Effects Skin Care range.  I also enjoyed my first high tea experience!!!  It was fantastic except for the cheese-filled quiches.  Did I tell you I am a cheese-phobic?  But I love whipped cream though (with scones and jam), even though I am lactose intolerant.

OPI Spiderman
OPI The Amazing Spiderman Collection :  You guys know how much I love OPI, right?  Well, this mini collection is my new splurge…but my stupid nails keep breaking so I haven’t been able to swatch any nail polishes!  Argh!!!!!  Anyway, you can buy this at David Jones for $25.  I think David Jones is my current favourite shop…but I do more browsing than purchasing!

For Him :  I have gathered a reasonable amount of male beauty products from purchases, PR samples and goody bag gifts.  Yup, it is time to snare down my Husband and make him do some male beauty blogging.  He has done a few reviews before – have you read them?  This hair  review is his most popular post, thus far.

Anyway, I’m off to add the Michelle Phan photos on our Facebook page so if you wanna chat, see ya there!  I sound like a boring old fart, but hat’s how I roll on a Friday night 😛

Stunning Nails : OPI Divine Swine

OPI Divine Swine, OPI AU, OPI glitter, OPI new collection, OPI pink, OPI Muppets

Me :  OPI Divine Swine, where have you been all my life?
OPI Divine Swine :  Well, if you really must know, I have been left unloved in your nail polish drawer since the end of last year!!  Remember this?
Me :  Oopsie!  My bad!!

Ah yes, ladies and er…ladies, OPI Divine Swine is part of the Muppets collection from last year, but I have had this stunner for over 6 months and I only just swatched it on Sunday.  Shame on me!

OPI Divine Swine, OPI glitters, OPI swatches

OPI Divine Swine may be a glittery stunner but boy, it took me 7 layers to achieve this.  The base glitter is magenta and then there’s the silver hexagonal glittery discs.  What a winning combo!

You may notice some tip wear because this is taken on Day 3 of wearing it.  I am not supposed to wear nail polish at work but I am defying the rules!  I have been getting compliments left, right and centre from my colleagues 🙂

OPI Divine Swine will probably look even better layered over a base colour.  Hmm…may try that another day…  I am so not looking forward to removing this because glitter can be a bugger to remove.

Anyway, what do you think of OPI Divine Swine?  I seriously think I have an OPI addiction!!  I was uber tempted to buy more yesterday because I saw them for sale at $10 at a beauty stall in Westfield Doncaster (they didn’t look like fake, but who knows?).  Also, the Shatter polishes are $10 at Priceline – but Shatter is so last season, says she who owns both black and pink versions.

Mini Shopping Haul From Salon Melbourne

Yesterday, I shared about my experience at Salon Melbourne and today, as promised, I’m going to show you my mini shopping haul.  I say mini because I didn’t really buy as much as I really wanted to buy.  I had to restrain myself because we are moving house next week and we need to pay for cleaner, steam carpet cleaner and removal men.  Argh!

spring nail polish, ZOYA intimate, zoya nail polish, nail polish haul

ZOYA Intimate Collection ($25 AUD) featuring Dannii, Jules, Caitlin, Dove, Marley and Gemma.  It’s my first time with ZOYA so I hope we’ll get along.  I’m glad they have names instead of numbers but they’re still not as cool as OPI’s kickass names 😛

nail polish haul, nail polish blog, best beauty blog

Layla Magneffect 24 Starry Night ($10 AUD) : I have been very curious about magnetic nail polishes but not really seen them in shops so I was happy to see the Layla Magneffect range at Salon Melbourne.  The guy who served me was totally gross though!  He coughed into his hand, took my money and then coughed again and handed me back my change.  YUK!  He was Asian like me.  Damn us Asians!  LOL.

OPI Alpine Snow ($10 AUD) : Like, OMG!  The OPI stall was packed full of ladies because they were half their normal RRP.  I so wanted EVERYTHING because I love me some OPI…but I only bought one.  A pure white…mainly for nail art purposes 🙂

ZOYA Rina ($3 AUD) : I picked this up when I went to pay for the above Intimate Collection because it was cheap and because the glittery green caught my eye.

Crown Eyeshadow Smudge Brush ($5 AUD) : I had my eye on some Rae Morris brushes…but I only walked away with this brush.  I am thinking of using it to clean up my nails after I paint them.

TOTAL SPEND : $53 AUD

Please note :-

1.  I swear I’m not turning into a nail polish blogger!
2.  I will update this blog post with links when I swatch them.
3.  Two of nails on my swatching hand decided to commit suicide when they saw my nail polish haulage!  I now have nubbins!  Damn them!

Anyway, let me know what you have bought recently.  I need to stop buying!!!  Arghhh!!!
