Review : Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder

Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder 030 Medium, Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder in Australia, Revlon Nearly Naked Powder

One of my makeup mottos is that… Primer, foundation and powder go together likes birds of a feather.  Primer preps my skin, foundation provides coverage to even out my complexion and powder helps hold everything in place.  Of course not everyone will agree, but each to their own skin 😉

Anyway, today’s review is basically a sequel to my review on Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation – it is indeed Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder.

Before I continue, let me tell y’all the truth – I prefer loose powder to pressed powder… but seeing as I was sent the Revlon Nearly Naked range for review, I had to be an open minded beauty guinea pig blogger.

NEW! Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Powder, Laura Mercier Foundation, Laura Mercier Australia

I am pleased to showcase another BRAND NEW & COMING SOON tried, tested and loved beauty product which was sent for review – Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder.  You heard it here first, but I declare that it is TOTALLY THE BEES KNEES and you will see why later when you see the unedited before and after photos because high res photos (taken with my awesome new Canon 40mm pancake lens – thank you hubby!) tell no lies!!!

Nude By Nature Powder Brush Gives Me A Make-Up-Brush-Gasm!

Nude By Nature Powder, natural make-up

Do you know what my favourite make-up brush is?  It is a big fluffy powder brush!  Why?  Because I love how the big soft fluffy bristles feel against my face and how it delicately tickles my not-so-delicate flat Asian nose.  No other make-up brush gives me that much satisfaction.  It’s like a make-up-brush-gasm (i.e make-up brush + orgasm)…if there is such a thing.  No?  Okay, it’s just me then…

Anyway, this will explain what happened when I received a Nude By Nature care package…  In the box, I immediately noticed a trio of lip glosses – which I promptly reviewed – and a couple of make-up items which I ooh-ed over…and THEN I SAW THE POWDER BRUSH!

I tested the bristles on my hand and I knew that this Nude By Nature Powder Brush was a goodie.  It was lovely, fluffy and supersoft.  INSTANT LOVE and that make-up-brush-gasm I was talking about earlier…ahem…

Anyway, my care package included the perfect accessory to road-test the Powder Brush and that was in the form of the Nude By Nature Mineral Finishing Veil.

Nude By Nature mineral review, Nude by Nature powder

Nude By Nature Mineral Finishing Veil is a finely-milled translucent finishing powder AKA “Oily Face Police”.  I like it but I don’t love it.  But that’s because of the packaging fault of the holes.  The powder just gets EVERYWHERE!  Up my nose, down my throat, on my bathroom floor…you get the picture!

So yeah… go and test out the Nude By Nature Powder Brush  ($14.95 AUD) and see if it gives you a make-up-brush-gasm too.  As for the Nude By Nature Mineral Finishing Veil ($39.95 AUD), it’s a better-than-average powder but it’s not perfect, in my opinion.

Have you tried Nude By Nature products?  Is it just me or are the photos I took for this post looking really good or what?  Also, I wonder what Google hits I will get from this post as it contains dodgy words like “nude” and “orgasm”.  Let me write “sex” too – just for the heck of it 😛

Rimmel Lasting Finish Minerals Loose Powder Foundation

In June this year, the Hubby and I signed the marriage register in Melbourne and we had a small party with family and friends (whereas the big Church wedding was held in August in Scotland).  To cut down on costs and save for the bigger wedding, I decided to let my sister do my make-up.  She arrived 2 days before the special day and we went shopping for a new foundation as my usual Shu Uemura one was a shade too dark and more suitable for the summer months.  We tested a few foundations for shade compatibility and photogenicity (is that a word?) and we settled on Rimmel Lasting Finish Minerals Loose Powder Foundation in shade 100 ivory at RRP $19.95.

Rimmel, mineral foundation

Product Description

A loose powder foundation, with a mineral-enriched formula, that provides the coverage of a fluid foundation and the texture of a loose powder, leaving you with a matte finish that lasts up to 12 hours. The provided kabuki brush ensures a buildable application.

When I went shopping that day, I seriously thought I was going to buy an expensive foundation from a designer brand.  I mean, hello, I was kinda getting married.  But we both felt that the shade of this loose powder foundation was the closest match.

My Opinions

  • I felt that the kabuki brush they provided was too small for my big face, so I used my usual Red Earth kabuki brush instead for application.
  • But the small kabuki brush is very handy to put in the handbag for touch-ups during the day.
  • The coverage was light and my skin didn’t feel caked with too much foundation.
  • Blended in very well with my skin colour
  • Skin looked amazing in photos (ahem, complimenting myself here)
  • Face started to go less matte after 10 hours and needed a touch-up
  • Affordable with fabulous results 9.5 out of 10

In conclusion :  Rimmel Lasting Finish Minerals Loose Powder Foundation, you made me look amazing on a very special day!
