What’s In My Beach Bag?

What's in my beach bag?

{ Happy Friday peeps!  I had a Peking Duck dinner date last night so didn’t have time to prepare a post for today so I had a look at my unpublished drafts and here is what I found -‘What’s In My Beach Bag?’!!!  I actually wrote this over a year ago…but it seems kinda apt because Melbourne has been crazy hot and great beach weather if you like getting sunburnt 😉

Looking back at this post, I realised that I made a great investment by purchasing this DSLR camera for better photos 😛  Anyway, on with the post and I wish all the Aussie peeps a happy long Labour Day weekend 🙂  4.5 hours till mine starts 🙂  (yes I am typing this whilst having a wee break at work – shhh!!!) }

Melbourne has been going through some sunny spells recently and you know what that means, right?  Time to hit the beach!  Here’s what I put in my beach bag :-

Outfit Of The Day : Maxi Factor

outfit of the day blog, daily outfit, maxi dress

Maxi dresses can swamp petite ladies like me.  I picked up this black maxi dress with chain print at the front for £1 – yes, £1 from Primark, the last time I was back home in Scotland.  It clings to all the wrong places, i.e. my belly, so I had to hide this with a loose-fitting off-the-shoulder top, which I bought for $10 from Valleygirl.  Added a long chain necklace (50p from Primark) and some arm accessories and I was done.  Done a “no make-up” make-up look with this outfit of the day and kept hair voluminous.

P.S.  The photos of this OOTD was taken many moons ago…and I’ve only just dug it out of the archives.  Sorry.  My outfits of the day have been uninspiring lately so this will have to do!  Have a great weekend!!!

The Mannequin Fashion Challenge Revealed : Alannah Hill

Last week, I came up with a somewhat random mannequin fashion challenge to find outfits within my own wardrobe as inspired by mannequins.  I took this photo of some Alannah Hill mannequins in Chadstone mall in Melbourne.  I thought these outfits were do-able for me as I had these 3 important key pieces already.

So are you ready to see what I came up with….?

1st Mannequin

This Alannah Hill outfit is so cute and girly – I think it’s suitable for everyday wear.
I don’t own a pink cardigan so I improvised with a grey one.  The sheer criss cross tights I am wearing didn’t photograph too well.
Items of clothing featured here are from Primark, Esprit and New Look.

2nd Mannequin

This school-girl-ish outfit is rather sexy and sassy especially with those suspender tights.  I’m not a big fan of the scarf though.
I don’t own suspender tights but good thing I had knee high stockings to improvise.
Items of clothing featured here are from Primark and Daiso.

3rd Mannequin

This is my favourite outfit out of the 3.  I can imagine myself wearing this to a wedding.  The dotted tights are so quirky.
So it should come as no biggie that I have similar items in my current wardrobe.  Yes, even the dotted tights!
Items of clothing featured here are from Primark (yes, it is my favourite UK clothing store) and Forever New (this is my favourite Australian clothing store).

Mannequins have long slender legs!!!  It’s not fair because mine are short and stubby!  I have been thinking of buying my own mannequin and dressing her up to do fashion posts – but my Husband thinks it’s creepy having a mannequin in the house!  LOL

It was great discovering pieces of clothing which I would not normally pair together.  But taking photos of myself proved difficult as I don’t have a remote control for my camera.  I also need a better camera!  I think I will definitely have to invest in a good camera (and maybe a mannequin) if I want to continue with fashion posts on The Best Beauty Blog.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this fun fashion post.  Please check out Megan from Beauty In The Sky and Melody from Melludee for their takes on The Mannequin Fashion Challenge.  Also, please comment with a link if you have decided to do this challenge too.  I would love to see the outfits you came up with.

Outfit Of The Day : Trashy and Clashy

I hope everyone is enjoying the long Easter weekend.  This morning I woke up and decided to throw on random items of clothing and accessories.  I wanted to create something extremely fashionable.  I deliberately chose strong colourful items which clashed with each other – hoping they would somehow work.  However, I am looking at the photos now and think that I looked rather trashy!  My Husband came home from a work interview and when I opened the door, he saw me and….laughed!!!!  Ah well, I thought it was fun.

What I Am Wearing

  • Animal print dress from Primark
  • Stripy tights from Target
  • Suede knee high boots from Sandler
  • Belt from another dress
  • All accessories are a mixture from Spain, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand

Totally trashy and clashy right??  LOL

As can be seen in the photos, I have a bit of a belly at the moment.  I have put on 2 dress sizes since August!!!  Yes, marriage does that to you!!  Going on a diet next week….hehe!

Before you go, I would like to say a few things. My camera is rubbish. My photographic skills are rubbish. My posing skills are rubbish. I have to put my camera on self-timer and then rush to pose. It is much harder than it looks. Lighting was really bad too. And I can’t edit photos either. I don’t even know how to use Photoshop; I use Photoscape. But you know, I’d like to incorporate more fashion posts into the blog so, I’ll try my best.  However, if you think that my OOTD posts are not what you want to read on The Best Beauty Blog because of the bad quality, then please tell me in the comments.

Outfit Of The Day : Black And Grey

Black is a staple colour in my wardrobe.  Black is slimming.  White isn’t.  I just look like a fat white blob when I wear white.  Yep, even when I wore my white wedding gown, I looked like a big fat white meringue!!  LOL.  Anyway, here’s what I wore the other day.

The feather hairband in a semi-bun and black lacy dress are inspired by Black Swan.

The fake eyelashes, red lipstick and red peep toes are inspired by Burlesque.

Primark Nail Polish In Lilac

Back in UK, Primark is one of my favourite shops.  I love their bras because they fit my boobs really well and makes them look nice and perky.  Anyway, last time I was back in UK which was 3-4 months ago, I noticed that Primark had started selling make-up.  I saw this pretty lilac nail polish and it was only £1 so I bought it.

Primark nail polish is designed to accentuate your nails but sadly, it does not deliver on its promise.  The nail polish was gloopy and difficult to apply on my nails.  It was just plain awful.  Look at the photos and I won’t need to say anymore.

But Primark nail polish remover pads are good at removing unwanted nail polish!
