Everyone has their own secrets to staying young and beautiful and here are my secrets to staying young and beautiful…(which are not going to be so secretive anymore!)…

1.  Believe I am beautiful inside and outside

If I don’t believe this, how the heck am I going to fool anyone else?  I am not disillusioned and I know that I am not perfect in every way, but I can see the beauty inside me which is reflected on the outside.

2.  You are what you eat from your head to your feet!

As much as I would love to eat KFC Wicked Wings every single day, the deep fried tasty goodness is not going to do my skin nor my figure any long-term favours.  At the same time, I don’t believe in denying myself deep fried treats so I try and eat them in moderation and make sure I balance it out with healthy, nutritious foods.

3.  Daily beauty regime

I’m a skincare-lover because I have desert-dry skin which means wrinkles are around the corner waiting for me.  I will invest money in quality skincare products which work for my skin.  My daily beauty regime involves keeping my skin cleansed, hydrated, protected against the harmful UV rays and well-nourished.  I haven’t found a magic lotion or potion which does all that so I rely on my wide variety of products and dibble and dabble with all of them.  It is important to realise that environmental changes means it’s time to change daily routine to adapt to this.

As for make-up, I don’t believe in caking my face in it.  Keeping it fresh and radiant with pops of colour works best for me with.

4.  Hang out with young-minded people

I may have a body of a 31-year-old, but I am young at heart.  Some of my best friends are 10 years younger than me and that’s great because it keeps me young.  Heck, my Husband is 2 years younger than me and sometimes I’ll get teased that I’m a ‘cradle-snatcher’ (yeah, I know – clearly they haven’t heard of Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher!) – but I love it!  It keeps me feeling and looking youthful.  There are some people who are younger than me, but they are mature in thinking for their age and they look older than me – of course, there’s nothing wrong with that if that’s the look you are aiming for, but I plan on staying forever 21!

5.  Mutton dressed as lamb pig!

For me, I don’t follow the rules of fashion.  I am extremely random and it’s hard to classify my dress sense.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it goes terribly wrong, but if I wear it, I will work it!  In my eyes, I look good so who cares what anyone else thinks?

Nothing ages me faster than the colour brown!  Brown looks old and makes me feel old.  I avoid it like the plague.  My Mum bought me an Louis Vuitton bag many years ago and to this day, I have no idea why she spent that money on a brown handbag for me.  I can’t bear to use it because it is a ‘granny’ bag on me.

6.  Cosmetic enhancements

Sometimes you may need that extra bit of help against the ageing process and I’m all for it.  I’m not saying I want to do a Heidi Montag, but I’ve dabbled in Botox and dermal fillers in the past because I could (I am qualified to do this in UK) and given the right circumstances (i.e. money – of which I am lacking currently), I would do it here in Australia.  People will often say, “But you’re so young, you don’t need Botox!” – and that’s because they don’t know that prevention (of wrinkles) is better than cure!  Sometimes, there is no cure!!!

Now that I’ve shared all my secrets, it’s time to tell me yours.  What are your secrets to staying young and beautiful?

I agree with all your points, especially the fashion one! Just wear what you want, not what magazines and others say you “should” wear. My own secrets kinda sound crazy, but it’s to not wash your face so frequently (only anytime you shower, after being out all day and you’ve sweated heaps or after wearing makeup) and to know that oils are good- ingested or otherwise 🙂 Now I sound like a fat, lazy slob… LOL!

@Rin, Great tip Rin. I’ve heard to over-cleasing your face can do more damage than good! And great excuse to eat more deep fried oily foods – yay! And you’re definitely not a fat, lazy slob!!!

First of all, congratulations on being featured on Dove Diaries! My mum has always been a firm believer in a good set of skin care products so she’s instilled it in my since I hit puberty. I suppose cleansing your face properly at the end of the day really helps keep your skin smooth and supple hence looking young and beautiful! =p I agree with all of your points, Ling but am apprehensive about cosmetic enhancements as I hear they hurt quite a bit! :s

@Sukie, Thanks Sukie. Your mum must look fantastic for her age! As for cosmetic enhancements, I guess it isn’t for everybody. And remember – no pain, no gain! 🙂

I like this post and thanks for your positive out look on staying young. I would love to stay young forever but also I want to age gracefully and happy with unnecessary cosmetic enhancement like botox because that can be addicting and there is no way of 100% satisfaction. You always tend to worry about the wrinkles here and there.

@Cynthia, Thanks Cynthia. Cosmetic enhancements isn’t for everyone and I would LOVE to grow gracefully, but I know that if I could, I would 😉

Point # 4 really hits home with me. I always say you are your environment or how the old Russian saying goes “Tell me who your Friends are and I will tell you who you are”

You have a great site, I look forward to re-visiting again!

@Myles, Oh yes, I’ve heard that saying before.

      And thanks Myles 😀

I have found manuka honey to be a blessing for my skin 🙂 it is perfect for moisterising, clearing and anti aging skin 😀 it also tastes good lol! I usually mix the honey with some milk and use it as a face wash and occassionaly put the honey on my face like a mask for 10-20 minutes before washing off with warm water.

@Maree, Manuka honey is one of those miraculous multi-tasking products! Thanks for the tip…it may have inspired me to write a post on it 🙂
